As long as its purely social the employer can't do anything.
Come on and share the circumstances please. There is no harm to your father in doing so.
Sorry Anihilator, I don’t understand the point you were making regarding “Come on and share the circumstances please”.
With regards to being purely social. Unfortunately not all colleagues concern is genuine as to your present situation, sadly some people will use the information to their own advantage to win brownie points with their employers.

Can I just chuck in a perspective from the other side of the fence, so to speak?
Some years ago I had to sack a member of staff. Been with the company nigh on twenty years. Is was discovered, purely by chance, that they had apparently been fiddling their expense claims. This was regarded as gross misconduct so a meeting was called to put the claims to the staff member. Union representative came along too.
At this first meeting the allegations were put forward and were strenuously denied. I have to say I was a bit surprised by this as we (the management) thought we had a pretty strong case and that the member of staff would hold his hands up and say sorry, I won't do it again and hope that we showed some leniency.
We had to advise the member of staff that we were going to launch a full blown investigation which may well involve the police. He was happy for us to do so.
At this point I think he was trying to call our bluff, thinking that we would not go to all the trouble and expense (no pun intended) of taking this further. Unfortunately for him we were not bluffing and following the investigation uncovered a scheme of systematic fraud, going back a number of years. When the Union rep found this out he was mad as the member of staff had lied to him as well, but being a professional did accompany him to the subsequent meeting where all the evidence was laid before the staff member. Only then when he realised he had been caught, did he ask for mercy. Too late and he was dismissed without notice.
He appealed internally, twice as per our company procedures, and lost on both occasions. The next thing I knew I was being summoned to an Employment Tribunal as he was now challenging the harshness of the penalty.
I was astounded by this as we had followed all the rules and had a watertight case against him.
He dropped his case on the Friday before the Monday tribunal.
The whole thing was most unpleasant but he did wrong and we did right.
To the OP as long as your father is in the right then get him to stick to his guns, don't give up and make sure you fight it all the way.We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Your entitled to your opinion that you consider my post strange
You really should have stopped at that sentence. The rest was white noise
I still think is is seriously strange that that a post from a stranger about their father being suspended from work reduces you to tears. I mean, there is empathy and then just down the road from empathy is weird city..0 -

Please do not take advice from Anihilator in relation to employment law. Let him stick to what he knows - MOT checks and Car Tax issues.0 -
