  • Thanks for that. I've had a rummage round to find my leccie monitor list (a year old) and mine tracked at 19p for a regular cycle.
    Bit worried now that I've made a massive mess up in the reading so will get DH to redo my list at weekend and make sure he reprogrammes it to the lastest prices.
    Looks like another fun packed weekend for us then. :rolleyes:

    To be honest its the olives and the anchovy i'm unsure about:rotfl:. Although I would give the anchovy a go (i think!) Hmm store cupboard, baked beans, red lentils, rice, pasta, cashew nuts, two ton of pickled beetroot, (loads of onions thanks to FIL), worc. sauce, loads of dried herbs and spices (including mustard seeds:eek:)tinned raviloi:eek:, tinned onions:eek:...you getting the drift?

    I need you to come to me for a least two days, sort through my cupboards and tell me exactly what I can cook and how!

    What would be a good start to have in the store cupboard? Shamfully I think a lot of stuff in mine is probably OOD :-(

    My gut reaction to that is there isn't enough protein or at least not a balance of amino acids, are you still keeping track of that or is this just a one off? Hope you don't mind me clarifying: I am a fitness instructor as well as MSE regular so read your earlier threads with great interest. :o

    VERY impressed with your electricity reduction, my flat is all-electric and in 2007/8 we were averaging £26 a month by not using the heating at all. Since then we have had price rises and an unusually cold winter. Nowhere near now ... :(

    Cheerfulness it's probably our maths :o we haven't got a monitor. I'll re-run my figures. Ours are so far apart that it makes me think something's gotta be wrong! :rotfl:

    TPA if it's olives and anchovies I think we'd better start with a different recipe! Stephen Leak (regular OS poster) posted a recipe which was just spaghetti pasta tossed in oil and garlic with a little sea salt and crushed black pepper, when I costed it it was only 8p per portion :money:. We thought it would be vile, but it's yummy. Even more yummy is to use the oil from a jar of sundried toms, if you're buying the toms for another recipe, like to pep up your lunchtime humous ;)

    Will have more of a think about store cupboard and get back to you. In work today so not much headspace!

    Hiya fire fox, interesting question, and one that made me revisit my early maths to see if things were sliding nutritionally!

    The pasta recipe has 19g of protein per portion, which is reassuring cos that's at least half my daily requirement. Or am I missing something? You obviously know lots about this, so do say if I'm being dumb :o I thought the homemade bread in toast and hummous sarnies was pretty high protein too, but I'll check...

    Hi,
    I stumbled across this thread last night and its got me revisiting your old threads on OS. I'm not paying off a mortgage but I do have some debt to pay off so its all very interesting and giving me lots of ideas.

    In regards to your children, just so you know you're not alone..I have 4 children. 1 yr and 3 days between the first too, then 2 and a half yrs, then 1 yr and 3 weeks between the last 2....they were a bit like buses for me.

    Do you make your own cleaning products, cosmetics etc?

    How you get those anchovie stuffed olives in a pan amazes me mostly they end up in my mouth before the meal:o

    The COOp chooks are About £2.50 each and are the Elmwood freedom food type ones , i know Mr T's are cheaper but this is the one area i cannot cut back well that and eggs and milk:rolleyes: The cheapest free range chicken i have food is at L1d1 for £6 mr t usually nearer a tenner meaning we dont have chicken often

    I will be interested in the nutritional content of your meal too as the hoummus has protein to as well as the stuff you mentioned .................but i am no expert .

    With your well-known predilection for bulk cooking - just bethought myself that you might be interested in the links I gave in a recent post on my blog about "cooking for the 5,000" - not quite - but a lot of those "feeding the masses" recipes are for 25-50 people - so if you batchcooked a half quantity of one of those soup ones perhaps for the freezer it might be useful to you.

    Are you still making the wholemeal bread in bulk from your other thread? I didn't even think about it containing protein.
    I must reread your older thread as we always do the ususual 'its 1st Jan so this year we will be healthy' thingy. I seem to have forgotten a lot of the nutritional info. :o
    Your figures for over paying your mortgage have totally inspired me to keep focused and not letting things slide. I do so love a challenge. ;)

    Wanted to say a quick Hi, i followed your other threads for a while but got sidetrracked by something else and lost the plot...

    I'm on the MFIT - T2 challenge too, and was thinking i'd set me sights too high trying to pay off £30K in three years, but your efforts have spurred me on again.. fantastic overpayment by you - well done! i can only hope to get anywhere as near over the next few years..

    You are far from dumb, I have been very impressed with your thoroughness! :T Depends what flour and pasta you are using and what portion sizes of course ... I noted that particular day was pretty wheat-heavy, so the chances of missing out on one particular amino acid are increased. This becomes important if you are hitting minimum protein intakes long term, as the body may down-regulate essential processes (immunity) or draw from stores (muscle) to compensate.

    Breakfast looks good assuming the porridge is made with milk (guess so for your little one!), houmous sarnies also great. Maybe chuck some red lentils into your puttanesca sauce or plain yoghurt with your cobbler, not sure how that would affect the budget tho? :confused:
