'Thanks' Buttons

I know the forum rules say "theres no such thing as a dumb question", but this is probably a dumb question.

What is the purpose of the "thanks" buttons at the bottom of each post? I know they build up your "User has been thanked x times in x posts", but do they actually do anything? Or is it just, well, a bit of a thankyou?

I'm not saying they''re useless - I think it's a really good feeling to know you've offered someone a bit of advice. But if you can redeem them against beer tokens and I don't know about it, then I'll get angry.

No you can't redeem them for beer tokens..! :rotfl:

As far as I am aware they are there - as you say- just to let someone know you appreciated their post.

    Why thank you!

    I've just returned the favour.

It was also the fact that I've seen other posters reminding other posters to use the thanks button.

Think it's a nice feature of the site. Bit of moral building.

How about a "Slap this user" for bad posts. To be saved for Spammers, of course....

Must say I wasn't fishing for Thanks! I've been thanking people without really knowing what the function was for.

Lets face it the banks never say thank you when they take our money. At least we have manners.

Not so long ago mse had to take thank you button away whilst they tried to work out why site was so slow. also some people sometimes just post thanks rather than using thanks button and so you end up with lots of posting on a thread. some people don't like this because it takes longer to trawl through replies.

I like thanking people for useful or amusing posts, yet the damn thanks button doesn't work in Konqueror, despite the fact I notified the forum of this a few months ago

In fact in order to post I have to use the quick reply box, then go advanced, then submit as the Post Quick Reply button doesn't do it's job neither. Tsch.

Makes a lot of sense now you mention it.
