That's exactly right BootyBabe! I am effectively employing them as I pay their salary through my tax £ I'd rather people where earning their dole rather than sitting about watching Opera! If we're supporting the jobless, we should effectively own them!
I do pay a cleaner! I'm also still looking for some models!0 -

Don't be so ignorant. I have worked since I was 14 and only recently have been out of work. I have paid my share of taxes and have been applying for jobs since I lost my last permanent one in June (since then I had zero interviews for months (except with hotels who I worked with temping) and have now had 3 in the last 3 weeks - things are looking up). And at getting £50 odd pound a week JSA - that is less than I paid in tax most weeks when working!
On second thoughts you MUST be a troll. No one can believe "If we're supporting the jobless, we should effectively own them" seriously? Seriously?
Anyway the "new deal" seems a lot of rubbish from what I've seen. Luckily I have not been unemployed long enough to know first hand but it sounds pretty dire. Can't see how the Tories could make it any worse. I would be all for doing community service etc. I have been trying to find a volunteer role for ages now too but being rural it is hard. It would be great for experience and also keeping morale up - do you even know how depressing it is being unemployed?
Is there any further information on the 'Get Britain Working' scheme?
BTW the job centre is completely useless. When I first signed on I was asked for areas of work I would consider - after listing a very few of them I got told "that's enough!!!" and just today I phoned Job Centre Direct for information on how to apply for an HR job (another thing that annoys me - why oh why can they not just put the details online - oh yeah they want your NI number for their useless LEP scheme). Anyway she eventually gave me the details (an e-mail address to send my CV too) but this was after me persuading her too. She tried so hard to put me off "Oh do you have any HR experience" (snotty voice as she obviously thinks she is better than me - what with being lucky enough to have a job in a call centre and all) despite the fact the job description did not ask for any. It asked for communication and IT skills and experience of office work which I have heaps of. Took about 5 minutes for her to give me the details. And this is an 0845 number. Not impressed. The job centre staff and call centre staff seem to be paid to keep us unemployed. Not surprising all the interviews I have are with places that did not advertise through them.
Final rant about them - I sign on by post as too far away from the nearest office. Since my last rapid reclaim (which they completely stuffed up due to a complete lack of communication between Job Centre Direct where I made the appointment and the Job Centre office I had my appointment) I have not had ONE signing on coupon delivered for me to send back on my signing day. Every week it is the same - I write a letter myself and send it and then phone them to explain why. Not only do they think they are better than me and discourage me from applying for jobs but they are completely incompetent as well.0 -

That bit i was teasing!! i also believe people are trying their damndest to get a job and shouldn't be penalised in the way i suggest! there are lots of people like my ex lodger however who've applied for a dozen jobs in 12 months! depressed they don't have a job, but too lazy to go and get a job! people like him need to earn their benefits or lose them. I hope the next government brings this about0 -

Some of your comments are so unfair, we have to have your nation insurance number so we can 'submit' you to the job. We have to check you have the relevant experience as we get complaints from emloyers that we give people detiails of jobs when they aren't suitable. Hence why not many employers are keen to place vacancies with us.
The system is far from pefect but we work with what the goverment lays down.
I don't work at a postal signing office so your comments may be fair there and i will gladly admit admit we aren't perfect. My office has more than doubled its staff and we are struggling to get them trained and able to do the job and answer the queries that it takes years to understand.
The jobcentre role is to ensure you satisfy the requirments of claiming JSA 1st and foremost.0 -

If someone treated me like that, they'd regret it.

You wouldn't be the one stuffing me in box though would you? You'll be at home watching Jeremy Kyle and claiming your benefits!0 -
why do 'some' people think that it is the governments job to get them a job. There are online agencies and jobsites etc, and what's wrong with walking around knocking on every shop/factory/hotel door and asking.
I know someone who has been out of work for at least 18 months, who does nothing to find a job and is still getting his rent paid and on top of it gets beer money (well that's what he does with it anyway). He is constantly on facebook telling his mates how he sleeps in all day and goes out drinking at night. He thinks the rest of us are mugs for working.
Roll on the conservatives, something has to be done.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0 -

One of the golden rules of life is don't cause people trouble.
Keep up the good work.
Let's hope nothing unfortunate happens to you or your family along the way.0 -

What planet do you live on ?0 -
He's living it up on £60 a week.
What planet do you live on ?
The one where I work hard for everything I have. He also has two ex girlfriends with three kids (his), both ex's have houses provided and are both on benefits, and he pays nothing towards them.
So in my view having enough money for even one night buying beer is living it up!Life is too short to drink bad wine!0
