what would do a lot better is for the or any government to put more money into training or re-training as for the moment there is very little available. There is also this issue that job center should be a bit more proactive in helping people to look for job.
another quickly attempted and empty policy to attract voters !
The government is already putting more money into training and re-training already. They particularly aiming mostly at the 18-24 age group, as well as others obviously.
When people sign-on, I've seen some sign-on staff help people find work, by printing out jobs that the people are interested in, and which match their Jobseekers Agreement. Also, during the 13/26 week review, I believe the advisors would help you apply/find/identify for jobs.I'm just starting to think the same (just finished my training for FJRs) and it seems that indeed all that you're told to do is make sure the tax payer's money is protected. However, there are advisors there that you can refer to who have 20 mins with each customer so perhaps the JCP can help give a helping hand to people? Not many bother though from my own experiences being on JSA.
I believe the 20 minutes with each customer thing is for people who are on 13/26 week reviews.

I would rather support a scheme that is hard on those who refrain from making a proper effort to get back into employment, supportive of those who are trying their best to get a job and symathtic of those who cant work due to genuine medical reasons. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

If I ended up on benefits, I would not be in one of the catergories I mentioned - obviously :rolleyes:0 -
We currently work 8 till 8 3 nights a week and this doesn't give us time to see everyone. Have you not seen other forums where people moan when they are called into extra or even mandatory interviews, offered weekly signing slots or back to work sessions? People who want help are very few and far between.
People do want help, huge numbers of people are currently desperate for help to enable them to feed their families and pay their mortgages! Perhaps what they don't want is to spend a morning/day/every day of the week in a session that does not help them at all as it is not tailored to their specific needs and often does not have any job searching materials available. It can be a waste of vital job seeking/applying time. That is what most people on the other threads moan about.
I don't think fatou is criticising the people who work in job centres.
As for community work schemes the government should just be honest and create a job out of the work with all the basic job related benefits.0 -
Surely the solution is to keep paying the benefits, but make the recepients meet together in town centres, so that people who are paying tax providing for these people can grab them to do small jobs for them. I'm effectively employing them anyway as a taxpayer, why shouldn't they clean my house and tidy my garden?
Naturally referring to the work shy here, not the unable!0 -

i agree that better training is needed.0 -
Jobcentres are allocated 5 mins each person once a fortnight, how are we supposed to spend time finding people work?
Our job is to ensure you have done enough to satisfy the legal requirements for claiming JSA which we can just about satisfy during that 5 mins.
i would like to see the jobcentre change from a policing style to a helping style. sometimes you can feel obligated to go for unsuitable jobs because you are too scared of what they might do if you say no.0 -
the problem is all those things you mention are of no help.We currently work 8 till 8 3 nights a week and this doesn't give us time to see everyone. a problem with schemes that require people to work for their benefit is rather than helping people get a job they actually cause more unemployment i suspect. why? because they have people doing jobs for their benefit that would otherwise have been done by paid workers. so those paid workers will get made redundant.0
