I have a 6 year old goose down king size duvet which seems to have lost most of it's filling. It used to be really full and heavy but now there only seem to be feathers at the top and bottom. It is actually two duvets buttoned together and they are both the same. I can't understand where the feathers have gone as they are sown into lots of little squares.I am reluctant to bin it as it was a wedding gift and cost over £100 from Debenhams. Does this just happen to duvets after a while? Please help, we are freezing.

It sounds as though the feathers are broken. Perhaps the duvet was squashed at some time. Maybe packed in a vaccuum bag. 100% down can be squashed but definitely not feathers0

Thanks Kittie. it has never been squashed to the best of my knowledge, (apart from me lying on top of course)0

Hi garret,
How have you been cleaning the quilt? Could that have caused it to flatten?

I've found that over the years natural duvets lose their 'loft' & do need replacing ... they don't last forever unfortunately0
