another I'm afraid....

I have just seen my mobile bill and I was horrified. I have been very sill and have messed up big time.

I was called a few weeks ago by my provider and offered a free notepad with all the gubbins for £20ish for wireless broadband per month. I think I was just so relieved that the person on the other end of the phone had not called to terrorise me I got talked into it.

No excuses, just had a blank moment and got carried away forgetting I'm not in my old life where anything goes, I can afford it no worries etc etc.

Anyway, I thought at the time it would make a great xmas present for madam this year and that £20 seemed ok to pay for the laptop and could cancel after 2 years and it would be ours.

Then I thought better of it when it arrived and realised I had been stupid and was boxing above my weight thinking I had the cash to throw around. I threw it in the cupboard. I was so ashamed I couldn't even look at the box.

I meant to send it back but ended up completely forgetting about it and now the 24 mnoth contract has kicked in.

How am I going to explain this one? I don't know what to do. I am so annoyed with myself for not frogmarching myself straight down the post office there and then. I have missed the chance to get out of the contract and am now stuck with no clue of how to deal with this.

I have just called the phone co. and was told it would cost £181 to terminate. I suppose now my phone account will have to go because I can't afford to buy out the contract and the OR will never allow that kind of expense.

    Hi Dollparts

Are you bankrupt yet? If so then OR would not allow this as essential expense but if you have spare income its up to you how you spend it.

If not bankrupt yet then you will be allowed a certain amount for phones etc and this payment may be excluded. However the bankruptcy guidelines are quite generous so you may well be able to keep it.

If you haven't done so already then please get some advice from one of the free debt advice agencies.

How much is the contract a month, £20? Or more?
The OR will allow £20 for a mobile contract, that's not unreasonable.

Going BR this week, but can't see how I am going to be able to keep up with the cost of the new contract.

OR will not wear it, I am so silly.

Ex-OH did this before we split up. One for him and one for me............. Plus the laptops we already had with home internet connection. (Stupid fool; him that is!) Now he is struggling to pay them as I told him I didn't want mine when he left; I have never used the silly thing. True, t'was I who thought about it to start with and thought it may be useful but said no. T'was he who was daft enough not to research.

Anyway. This has naff all to do with my point!

On the plus side. You now have a new netbook thats yours after BR. Take the SIM out for the mobile BB and connect it to your home wireless network. The debt for the contract will go into your BR.

Downside, your OR will raise an eyebrow. Tell him you sold it to CashConverters for £50 to pay the electric. You will lose your mobile contract though. But on an upshot from this, you could get yourself a PAYG sim that would be cheaper. Another downside is that the mobile company are likely to freeze your phone itself (if you got the phone via that contract).

OR. You could add £10 to housekeeping, £5 petrol and £5 to mobile/phone and pay it each month.

It's £20 on top of the £30 I am already paying.

Will I have to give my phone back (of course I will send the notebook back anyway) My phone contract is due to run til 2011

Aw Doll hun, don't beat your self up. It's such a good offer in theory, it's just when you think about it you just shudder.. actually 20 quid IS a lot of money isn't. I'm unsure how to help you get id of it but I guess it'll be OK because you're not BR yet. You're strong DP misses!
  • doll I just signed up to one of these, I needed a new phone and got a free xbox 360, and I am quite happy with it as it means our youngest gets the present he really wants and we haven't had to pay for it - as the monthly cost is the same as we are already paying.

so in summary I think these offers are pretty good really if they give you what you want.

    Try not to worry.

I've tried not to worry but I guess the issue is whether I'm going to get leathered over by it.

It doesn't look too good, I'd be the first to say that.
