Abbey won't accept deposit!

I would expect any lender to refuse cash deposits.

However when the deposit was "laundered" through your own bank the lender was pleased to accept it without question and I believe this to be the norm.

Please note, I did not intend to start an arguement merely giving my comment which has stimulated a lively debate:A

If your partner was to give you the money - as a gift (happy birthday!) then it's your money and your deposit so he wouldn't be anything to do with the house.
Or if you took out a few credit cards/overdraught and put the deposit there & your patner paid them of (all interest free of course).
Or if you 'suddenly' won the lottery etc - there's lots of ways you could have come by the cash, as long as it comes from your bank account (or your brothers) to the bank i don't see the problem.
