Fishface's debt diary...

Options
Well its been a long couple of months since my rock bottom/lightbulb moment & much has changed in that time. My sig shows the current credit card monies owing but in addition there are lovely loans (that I cant make overpayments on). My plan is simple...spend nowt, sell everything & pay as much off as I can. When the CC paid off I'll start making overpayments on my mortgage and when I can pay the loans off by borrowing back (I've got a Virgin 1 account mort) and making overpayments again. Its going to be a long hard slog but I WILL do it. Thought it would be good to have my own wee diary to mark the highs & lows....
So far there have been more highs than lows! In the first month (or two!) I have no overdraft (1st time since I was 16...20 years ago!)...have paid hundreds off CC (see sig!) and paid off two entirely and plan to pay JPL off next month & then all out for the 0% until it runs out in Sept. High today is transferring another 65 from paypal & this is in addition to the 85 I transferred last week!! House is less cluttered & as each bit goes I feel liberated, not forgetting the jump round the room joy watching bids go up on ebay!....lets see how it goes!! Look forward to sharing the highs & lows with you on out DFW journey! Hugaroos & thanks for listening!

Have decided to update regularly - more to clarify things for myself..been a odd week DFW; wasnt great organising lunch (had to buy it 1 day) but a busy week with work so will have to let it go. Have got over £100 extra dosh since paid on 20th (50 from Lloyds, ebay/amazon & my mum sent me a £20 Tesco voucer today). After a huge gulp put my scuba gear on ebay as its been gathering dust but hard because I think I was accepting that those lovely, luxury hols wont be around for a while...not that I had loads but now dont get any! Having said that have been watching it go up...currently at 250 which is great! Fingers crossed (or praying in my case!) that it goes up a bit more - another one sold for £770 tonight but cant hope it would go for that much...but obviously hope it does. Regardless of what it goes for have to be careful I dont do the usual "ooo now I can buy...". Need to focus on cooking, cleaning & sorting more stuff this weekend & want to see a friend as havent seen any for weeks & need some friendly chat/hugs...need to be careful that I dont slip, esp after my !!!! up booking tickets to my brothers wedding (lost 1400 air miles & £35 by booking wrong flights) because I was tired & need to take my own advice & chill a bit. Mum is coming Sunday so will hopefully have a nice day...onwards & upwards...

Well done fishface. I wish you good luck. If youve got any old mobile phones lying around the house, Envirofone will buy them off you. I am sure you will clear your debt as you are so determined.

  • Hey fishface,

You make sure you look after yourself - your health and well being is very important.

Congratulations on selling on eBay - you are doing really well. I'm really looking forward to reading your updates.

    Lots of love

Thanks all...I'm still in the new bit but starting to flag as feeling tired! Realised that due to the enormity of my debt that I need to pace myself! I have come up with a plan for earning extra dosh but need to get permission from top boss as its secondary employment & will find out if I can proceed hopefully next week. It will be an extra 300 net a month & much less tiring/stressful than ebay but will update what it is when I know for definate! Dont want to jinx myself! Please people send positive vobes for ebay stuff...diving gear hasnt moved from £250....hoping that the bank holiday wont make too much of a difference...bg hugs & thanks for your support & encouragement - it really is appreciated as its hard not to get down & despondent with so much debt so every boost helps!

    Fishface,
AM I right in thinking that you work for a local authority? If so, Unison has already clarified the situation re:second jobs, altohugh I dont know if this is national or just in my LA, even if its just in my LA, the same principle will apply accross LAS? BAsically the top and bottom of the decision is that your second job has to undermine and contradict the job that you currently do. Ie when I asked about this I was a assistant social worker in children & families, and to be honest I couldnt see what job would have physically contradicted my main job, aside from maybe working in one of those militant anti-social worker pressure groups. or selling babies on the black market.

Whatever the decision is, make sure its ratified by your trade union.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Hi and thanks for those;) ...because of my grade in work Lynz (senior prac) I have to have permission as per LA policy & proceedures & my contract; no compromise/conflict on my role for 2ndary employment & it doesnt bring my profession into disrepute (also had to consider care council registration!)!!! nadnad havent posted my SOA (ever!!) ...a personal choice really as I know that I am getting the cheapest I can on stuff (partly from looking at othere peoples posts!!) & regularly review this...not sure that I could cope with people knowing that much detail about salary, incomings outgoings etc...some will disagree with this but thats just how I feel; while I am happy to be open & honest in all my posts there are limits to what I choose to publish on a forum that can be read by pretty much anyone anywhere!! Feel free to disagree with this approach if you wish...!!!
Just done a batch of cooking..cant belive its midday already & havent even got to old style yet!! Keep advice coming, I do appreciate it....:T
