If those are horse chestnuts they are the wrong ones for roasting, you need the sweet chestnut from Spain.
DH and I have just done a long walk from our house, and collected and eaten Yorkshire sweet chestnuts

Thanks for the tips and link Seakay. I've decided to boil them and trying them mushed up in mash potato!? I'll let you know what it's like.
Penny - we went for a good forage / walk this afternoon - there are thousands of chestnuts but didn't collect too many as I want to check I like them first (hope so, all that free food) Also found about 7 blackberries, loads of windwall apples and more hazelnuts.
