Hi,

From 1993-1999 I was on the electoral Roll at my parents house

I lived as a student in mutliple properties since then.

I now live in London and am not on the voters roll (student accommodation)

What should I do when applying for a loan

Will this be a problem .. for applying for a loan?

It is often one of the scoring criteria but it is possible to get a loan without being on the register.

My partner used to not want to be on the roll having been a victim of domestic violence and she also had got credit lines and that also with one of her previous address being "non-existant" because it was a refuge and so did not have a street address that she could give

No it shouldn't be a problem, as I use to get loans without being on it but I'd suggest getting on the electrol role if you can every bit helps if you want to get a loan, it will take 30 days from once you hand in your form for the electrol role before any information appears on your councils' records then it should appear on your credit files.

It's not a valid reason to be off because you're a student. I was on electoral roll every student house I lived in, I made sure of this.

I'm still waiting to get on the electrol roll, mind you it's only been 9 months since I filled in the forms and returned them to the council.
Aiming to be debt free....but still off target

Perhaps they've lost your info, my partner took them straight to the council offices to ensure we got processed. Just download the Electrol form again and take it in personally, see if that works.

    Things are complicated

I had someone stalking me cos I stood up in court against him hitting his bird. I live in a different part of the country now, but I'm still glad I did it.

Perhaps you should consider changing your name by deed poll if your concerned about your welfare and being found by this person. do you think he'll come looking for you using the electrol if you were on it? am sure he wouldn't.

Is that your real name you use on this website, as it's not a good idea if it is as you never know who comes to this site and there you are advertising yourself esp as you state you live in Central London in this thread and another thread your not being that smart in keeping yourself hidden.

Either way with a new name you'd be be able to apply for the electrol role.

  • I used to work for Electoral Services (I won't say where though, they've been a news lately (for no good reason I'll add!).

Anyway, you can register on the Electoral Register under a different name.
We had several Lords, Sir's and Celebrities doing this (for obvious reasons) and although there's no legislation specifically allowing it, if you write them a nice letter explaining concisely and clearly why it would be dangerous for you to register in your name, you may register.

Of course, this won't be much help when it comes to applying for your loan!

Also, if you ask a Moderator they'll point you in the right direction to get your nickname changed on MSE (without having to open a new account) and that should change the name on your old posts too, I think.

Lastly, I too think you should get your name changed (I know, it's really weird having a new name, but worth it if you're in danger!).
You might also want to make the Police aware that this person is a danger to you and perhaps get a Court Order so they can't come within say 100 metres of you (or whatever the standard thing is).

    Hope that helps :D

Thanks for the tip and the concern. Ryan Maloney is the actor that plays Toadie on Neighbours. ;-)

I've considered changing my name by deedpoll. I had no idea you could register under a different name to vote - that's a good idea.

If you ask to be excluded from the full register, the only people that can see it are council officals, police and banks (because you've given them permission to check). You will not find your details on 192.com.
