  • So I hear Fermi, have been considering the Barclays Cash Account recently. Just got to wait till next month and an old debt to them drops off my file, then I will probably do it in the new year.

    Does everything I need. :)

Internet banking seems to be as good (and as quick) as anywhere else as well....

  • Cool, the updateing of the balance is the only niggle I have with the Co-op. I intend to keep it, I shall have 1 account for wages and DD's etc and the other will have my food/spending money.

lets hope it's not dealt with the same way the co-op did

Well, it's certainly no slower than any online banking that I have had in the past.

I'm not complaining. Feels like a proper grown ups account :o:D anyway.

  • Well from what we've experienced - Nationwide don't seem to be doing anything to try and help boyf or even suggest anything of any use. So I think he should try elsewhere just out of principle.

If he decides to go down the Co-op cashminder account - do you recommend that he applies over the phone or on-line? Also should he wait a few months and obtain another copy of his experian file.....or should it be ok to go for it now?

Thanks for all the advice so far :)

  • Try the co-op over the phone...they're pretty quick that way

usually grab experian etc files around a month or two after discharge (gives them chance to clean stuff up) go through the excellent clean up sticky at the top of this forum...then once you've informed anyone that needs to be leave it again for a few months and apply again for credit files to double check everythings been done

Nationwide used to be BR friendly, although they would still only give you a cash card.

But a way back they suddenly started refusing current BRs even basic accounts, so they have changed their attitude to BRs. In the light of that I can't say I am surprised that you BF is having trouble getting a debit card after BR.

Get him to vote with his feet and go somewhere more friendly.

  • Thanks Fermi, defo going to get him to try elsewhere. Not advancing anywhere with NW so no point staying.

Just wasn't sure if it was normal proceedures after bankruptcy, but he was discharged ages ago - so unless there's something very wrong with his credit report then it seems that Nationwide just aren't right for him.

Think we'll check credit report then apply for co-op.

Can you use the experian 30 day free trial if you've received a paper credit report in the same year? (no previous application for 30 day free trial on-line though)

    Thanks :)

Yep. :) I did that earlier this year.

Be careful to cancel in writing or over the phone in good time though.
