hot choc/cocoa in biscuits?

Options
Hi
Does anyone know if you can use the hot chocolate mix you get in a tub instead of cocoa in biscuit recipes? Or does it HAVE to be cocoa?
Got loads of Cadbury's hot chocolate in the cupboard and didn't want to have to buy cocoa as well!

Ive used hot chocolate instead of cocoa powder before, it does make cakes/biscuits a little bit sweeter so i use a little less sugar (say half an ounce) but apart from that, ive had no problems!

I have also used hot chocolate powder and it makes it lighter in colour and my DD2 doesnt like really strong tasting chocolate so its perfect for her.

Hot choc drink has the cocoa, milk powder and sugar all in. Cocoa is as it says on the tin, dark unsweetened cocoa.

The taste will be less intense if hot choc drink is used but will be yummy.

If you want a darker, richer colour, you could melt some plain chocolate into the mix, if you have any around.

I'm probably too late now as you will have made and scoffed the cookies by now

I would expect it to be more moneysaving (in the long term) to stock both. Well for me it is, since I like expensive hot choc powder (like the green and blacks stuff, as some cheaper ones are really sweet) so I keep a jar of that just for hot choc, and much cheaper cocoa for choc cakes and so on.

Of course you could just make hot choc with cocoa, milk and sugar and then you only need cocoa!

In iceland you can get a huge tub of fat reduced hot chocolate for about £1 -£1.50. Husband uses that sometimes when he makes a cake.

    And it comes out nice.

Some hot chocolate powder is simply a mix of cocoa and sugar, so can obviously be used to substitute the cocoa and some of the sugar in any recipe.
