Forum meany's

Sorry bit of a rant but really upset!

I have been posting on another wedding forum..mainly lurking really. Someone asked about wedding bands and if anyone knew of a good one. My oh is in a wedding band, so I offered there services... I have just checked back and someone has posted that I am a fake raving about my band just to get business plus a bit more!
Surely this is what forums are for, to offer help to other brides etc!!!! Felt like posting a really nasty reply, but didn't want to get myself blocked!

  • I think there is a difference between recommending a service you have used and recommending a member of your family for financial gain.

    People want an unbiased appraisal.

chatnoir - instead of saying that the band was you OH's, I would have written about a really great band that I saw at a friend's wedding (even if that isnt the case but I hope you can see where I am coming from)..thus you are making a recommendation and not touting for business.

On here, however, you are not allowed to post links for personal gain but there is nothing stopping up from putting a weblink into your profile as your homepage.
  • Dont know if I am just being Nieve or not...but if someone says "does anyone know of any wedding bands" I don't see the problem in saying , yes I do my oh is in one. I didn't go on and on about how great they are and I wasn't pushy...i even said they only recently got into the wedding band area...which doesn't exactly sell them but wanted to be honest. And if someones not interested thats fair do's no skin of my nose....just the fact that someone else has come on calling me fake, touting for business ( as im sure all bands set up profiles just on the off chance someone asks about band recommendations!) why do people feel it neccsary to be nasty just for the sake of it...I know im prob just being sensitive but its made me feel awful! as I was only trying to help and now feel like being made out to be money grabbing!

    *hugs*

Some people are a little paranoid on forums IMHO.

TBH, all the bands I've known (quite a few!) none of them are organised enough to yout for business like that LOL, so I do see the irony, but I do feel for you xx
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

Forums are strange places - and it is quite easy for sit behind their computers and make nasty comments. I wouldnt go back and say anything because you are only lowering yourself to their level - rise above it.

Personally, I wouldnt say that it was my OH's band even if it were because as you have found out that as soon as you attach ownership even by a tiny thread then they will assume that you are touting for business.

could the other person have meant they thought u where the original poster as well as responder?

Why not get your oh band on a youtube clip then you could just put a link and see what they think in future by hearing and seeing them in action.

it's all the hormones and stress - these girls get stressed about table decorations and napkins for gods sake, so don't take it personally ;)

Just reply and tell the truth - you may get an apology

We asked on a forum if anyone knew of a good photographer, someone replied saying their wife does wedding photography. We met up with her - shes absolutely fantastic - a real bargain and a great photographer. We didn't think for a second that their doing for their own gain - they obviously are, but its her job, and if you're proud of what your partner does then why not recommend them! I know I'd do exactly the same.:D
  • I know how u feel I had someone report me on this site today for recommending a website to help a couple of people, I have no affliation with the site except that i've signed up after a friend recommended it. Forum ettiquette is a grey area at the best of times and there will always been one bad egg that ruins it for the rest of us. Don't take it to heart and use the above info to avoid silly peoples comments in future. I wouldn't reply/take action unless it's a valuable site to u and then only if u r likely to be banned.

I hope u take some comfort from this and I hope your oh's business goes great in the future. If i ever finally get married, i've been engaged for years, i'll look u up!

It's difficult on a forum because sometimes one really just wants to be helpful which can be taken as being pushy.
There is a thread running on the Y&YW forum about "custom made dresses" The mods have insisted that no links of any kind (even if it is to recommend) because that is seen as advertising!
Easiest way to shout out about your band is as Horace suggested.
