I am so mad!!!

Went to an interview this morning. All was going well until he asked me my age. I hesitated but said I was 32. Then he continued to ask me about my living arrangments and about my plans to marry & have children (whether or not he'd noticed my engagement ring I'm not sure).

I didn't think they could ask you these things now? Surely that's sex discrimination as he wouldn't have asked a male applicant those questions? I'm guessing I won't get the job (and especially after finding out today I didn't get a previous one) and I'm fuming and upset.

Sorry just had to rant!

  • Was it a large company? They certainly can't ask you those things.

No, a very small one (less than 15 employees I believe)

I do understand from their point of view of course that they don't want to take someone on only for them to !!!!!! off on maternity leave etc but it still makes me mad :(

if they give you the job depending on how bad you need the cash i know what id be saying. and thats shove it up there foul bottoms. but i think its discrimination also. age and sex should definately not matter. and there definately is a law protecting people agaisnt this. imagine what other laws they break if they cant uphold the basics. bad bad company in my opinion.

If you dont get the job, i would be writing a very firm letter to the boss
    of the company.

It doesnt matter how big or small the company is they are not allowed to ask these quesions = its bloody outrageous.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks all - I was starting to wonder if I was getting upset over nothing, but although I am getting married next year (and do want kids at some point) it doesn't mean I'll up and leave!

It was the owner who interviewed me........

the purpose of a job interview isnt only for THEM to decide if they want to employ you - its for you to find out more about the company and if you want to work for THEM! I think you would be well out of it there - if that had happened to me and they offered me the job I would tell them to stuff it!!! and why! but then - tbh - for last 30 years I have only worked temp jobs and have a OH to support me. its up to you - but I wouldnt stew on it!

Oh I definately won't be taking the job - but I'm guessing as that's the sort of thing that's forefront in his mind I certainly won't be the prime candidate!
