I did buy snacks today at Tesco, I've bought pre-portioned stuff (mini light-babybel, Dorset Cereal bars and jelly/ custard things from Ambrosia that were on special intro offer.

My idea being that it is easier to manage (ie if I buy a packet of biccies they will go in no time at all)

    Let's see if this works!!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)
  • I know what you mean make up, I can easily see my way through a pack of biscuits within minutes! When I go shopping I need to get snacky stuff in too, If I don't have anything to snack on I end up having toast and I can't have just one slice, usually more like 4 :o Hope it works for you! And remember ..no more chocolate :naughty:

Thanks Shoe Gal! I've found today quite hard but I have to have a good first day else I've had it! I'm determined not to have a bad day in 2 weeks. It's once I have a bad day, I never seem to be able to recover from it

There was no more choc in my trolley (sort of, I'm not including the half price Ben & Jerry's as that is MSE so there :p)

On your SOA, is there anyway you can overpay on your HP / Secured Loan? That is the worst APR you are dealing with, and £90 is an achievable amount to clear.

My other comment would be that £80 per month on presents is an awful lot - I spent a lot on presents last year and it came to £60 per month which I thought was a lot!

Do you know how that divides up? Do you have a lot of people to buy for? or do you spend a lot on individual people??

I am pretty good on getting good presents for people at a reasonable price so if you need some advice let me know.

According to your SOA you have quite a bit over after everything - does it seem like that in reality?

Thanks for the reply Make up..

Firstly the £90.. I could have paid it off if I wasn't going on holiday in 2 weeks time. When I get back it will be the first thing I pay off.

The £80 pm does seem alot for presents doesnt it. But I've not been saving this all year it's just been since the maintenance stopped as I now have no extra money so I HAVE to put money away for these things each week so I put £10pw into my christmas tin and also put away £10pw for birthdays, if it's friends or their children I just put £5 in a card (there's alot though). I have £10 in it at the moment and I think I only have 2 £5 birthdays until DD's in November so hopefully by then there'll be enough to buy her guitar.

It does look as though I have a decent amount left doesn't it but no the reality is something quite different

The way I work things out is my benefits go in my bank and is for bills/holiday/PAD and my wages I get on a saturday and gets devided like this:

    £10 B'days
    £10 Xmas
    £10 Car
    £10 Petrol
    £8 Guitar
    £2 holiday
Leaves me with £40 but I don't know where that goes  Usually food I think although this week it was school uniform. I'm going to do a spending diary as I really don't like wasting money and didn't think I did but this is showing otherwise. Unless I've missed something out.

Next year xmas, b'day and car saving will go down to £5pw

Hope you enjoy your Ben and Jerry's. I've never tried it. I love Hagen Daaz (not sure now to spell it lol)

Hi Lula.. thanks :A And WELL DONE :T to you too!! Hope your first day back to work went ok.

I tend to buy presents throughout the year as and when I see something. It is a pain having to store stuff but it does make it a lot cheaper.

Eg. at moment there is £5 off voucher for No. 7 at Boots when you spend a fiver. I would use that voucher to get something (spending as little as possible) then I would put that away for Christmas. I also haunt the Boots thread and every so often get the bargains on there for the same thing.

The other thing you can try is getting multi-packs of things and then splitting them up as gifts. Can't think of ideas right now but am sure have done in past with toiletry sets.

Do you do any survey sites? Might be worth joining up to the better ones, I've used the amazon vouchers for presents - comes in very handy at Christmas, there is normally a book / cd / dvd etc for someone.

Er, that's all i can think of for now, hope I don't sound patronising....

Great tips makeup - I 've just redeemed a £10 HMV voucher through lightspeed surveys which will be used to get a cd for DD. I also save any unwanted gifts & then 'reycle' as future presents. Seem to remeber that bowski got a brillantly priced gift for the ex - about £1.50 or something wasnt it ;)

    love it :)

No way!!!! It's lovely of you to take the time to let me know about these things and it's very much appreciated thankyou :A

I have bought a couple of things throughout the year and so far for DD's b'day she's got some juggling balls and a DVD. That's about all she'll be getting along with her guitar as she's having a party.
For xmas I have a present for Nephew and a few for DD. I got them all cheap and I'm thinking of opening my xmas tin so I can start buying now when I see things cheap. I've been checking out the grabbit board and the other day got DD a xbox game for less that £4!
I might write a list of what I need for xmas and cross it off as I go along (obviously not putting Nicnacnoo's present lol) Although me and Nic say we won't buy for each other we always end up doing so and she deserves something extra special this year coz she's really helped me out since I've not been receiving my child maintenance :A

I go on pigsback and have 3000 piggypoints coming which I can get a £10 voucher I think so I will do that. Also I'm doing my scratch cards. And I fill up at Morrison's and so far have £10 gift voucher for them that I'm saving for xmas wether it be on food or presents.

I really think I'll be sorted next year as I'll be more organised, the maintenance thing has really really knocked me for six. Especially with having holiday, DD's b'day and xmas in the next 4 months.

My car is turning into a heap and the window is still broke, There's a weetabix box keeping it up at the moment :rotfl: But that's bottom of the priority list at the moment. It's a shame really because it's made me totally fall out of love with it and not so long ago it one of my greatest acheivements and I was so proud to own it.
