My Darling son has decided to paint with My Permanent Sharpie pen on his chair.
Is there any method to get rid of the pen ??
Thanks in advance.

I need to know - what's the chair made of ?
(please please be plastic)
if it's a non-absorbent surface try writing over the permanent with a wipeable pen and leave it a little while (minute?) then wipe off with a dry wiper. (This works on whiteboards;)) You may need to do this more than once!
I await your further input re the chair. DON'T use anything else for now...not even nail varnish remover until we know what the chair is made of!
What you probably need is carbon tetrachloride...nail varnish remover (if acetone) 'goes' for plastics and certain fabrics - which, come to think, you probably already know...

A popular answer seems to be hairspray as the alcohol possibly breaks it down, but i dont know this from experience

I used WD40 didn't want to use the acetone as this would fetch the varnish off the wood.
Thanks guys xxxxx
Jo i have not had a can of hairspray for years!! i know this is good for removing pen from leather settees.
My fault for leaving them out but at 4 he knows he writes, draws , paints on paper not furniture carpets or anything else !! Officially Debt Free Nov 2012 :beer:0 -
I know it isn't very old-style but IMO the VERY best thing for removing marks like that, particularly from wood, is one of those "magic eraser" type things. I think you can get them from JML but Flash do one and sometimes you see them in pound shops or Home and Bargain. I have used them to remove hardened nail varnish from a painted wall, permanent marker off paintwork, hair dye from woodwork in the bathroom and all kinds of other things. I always have them in the house now!Jane
