My Saving's Diary.

Options
Hi all,

I've been reading a few of your diaries on here and realised it is a good way of getting encouragement and maybe helping others with ideas along the way.

My situation:

I'm 24 and rent a 1 bed flat in Surrey with my partner. I work part time (with a bit of overtime) and he works full time. We have rented for nearly 6 months (will be in October) and this is the time we can move out. We just make it every month with the bills and the rent. I'm saving £100 a month and he's unable to save anything because he has more outgoings than me.

We had a big discussion yesterday and have decided to move back with our parents for a maximum of 2 years. We both have no debt and can save so much money per month if we move back with our parents. My parents will charge me but nowhere near what I'm paying for the rent at this flat.

I've worked out that I could save about £500 a month rather than £100 a month and my parner will be able to save £250 - 300 a month compared to £0 at the moment.

As we are both still young we know we have to make this step otherwise we are never going to own our own place. It will be really hard living apart again as we have become so idependant and I'm used to him being there every night. I live in Surrey and he lives in London so it's a bit awkward but he will be over to stay over a few times in the week. If after 2 years we dont have enough for a deposit at least we will have something in savings. I'm determined to save every penny I can whislt I have this oppitunity to live with my parents.

So we move out early October and then I can really start saving money. I have started already and do things like take pack lunch to work etc but still with the rent being so high I barely have anything left of my wages and it's only the 10th of the month today which is really depressing.

So I would like to keep my ramblings in this diary. Don't mind if noone reads it, just like to see how im doing and hopefully my totals going up!!

Luckily we both dont have any debt (apart from my OH's car loan) so that makes saving easier as anything we do save will be going in rather than out.

I'm scared about taking the step backwards to my parents but we have been together 4 years now so hoping we are strong enough to do this.

Sounds like a good plan and it will be worth it in the long run.

    Thanks Paris, I hope so!

So got a couple of months before we both move back home. Going to slowly move stuff into my parents so that I'm not doing it all in one day!

I'm constanty thinking how much I love living with my OH but then the feeling of saving lots of money comes into my head and I make myself listen to the sensible voice in me!

We have a joint savings account and at the moment have £3,491.66, in there so it's a start. I'm going to love seeing that going up every month. Very excited to get started! Would ideally like to save 20k between us for a deposit on a flat so am going to say thats my target. Going to go work out how much % I'm at to to my target in a bit and stick it in my signature. I'm a big believer in every little helps!

Going on holiday the start of September (all been paid for by OH's family - we are so lucky!!) and hopefully won't need to spend much money - just drinks and lunch and a couple of presents to bring back for family/friends.

Well, off to work in a mo but luckily it's a job where I can browse the net in the quiet periods so I can browse on here to look for tips. I love this site, really opens your eyes. Well, I gotta be at work in under an hour so better go get the bus, I should not moan, it's the main way of making money! Pay day just seems so far away.....just over 2 weeks to go.

Worked out how much of my target I've got....17.4% which I think actually sounds quite good! lol

Will be a NSD today apart from something for dinner so I don't count that.

hmmm, subway had a buy one get one free offer so got me and the OH a sub each for dinner.....kinda cheating, kinda not as it was on offer! lol :o

Full day at work tommorow so am going to take a packed lunch in so should be a NSD. Also bagged 4 hours overtime on Monday. Asked my boss if there is any chance of getting a full time job and he said to sit tight as there is hopes of a full time job for me so feeling positive about that.

    Hi Hayz,

Well done on starting a diary, i have one and find them very useful. You can write everything and then can go back and check where you went wrong, or just look at how good your doing :j

The moving back home sounds like a good idea, you guys have taken a big step deciding to move back home, can't of been an easy decision deciding to live away from your OH, but every time you miss home just think this is for your future and our first home together. Its just a shame banks want so much of a big deposit these days to get a mortgage.

Fingers crossed on the job going full time, that will really help with your deposit.

I am just about to subscribe to your diary :o

    Hiya
You sound really sensible in what you are planning. I'm sure it will be worthwhile in the end. Good luck. I'll pop back to see how you're getting along.

Lol, it's cool you are a Hayley, not many of us out there. :D

Well just started work so long day ahead of me. Hoping for a NSD as have bought my lunch in with me. Am seriously resisting my normal cup of morning tea from the canteen as I know I can get free cups this afternoon. Just got to hold out till 12! So drinking plenty of free water to keep me from falling asleep.

Looking on the web for some bedroom decorating ideas but not really sure where to look. Want to decorate my bedroom before I move back to mum and dads but bear in mind that it is a box room!! Need to find a new bed from somewhere too...

    Things to do today:

Check online banking - done, still looking bleak! :(

Do any surveys I get sent.
    Work full time today.
Have a NSD apart from bus fare but don't count that.
Tidy flat a bit when I get home.

Not loads to do today but enough to get on with. Just over an hour to go till I can have a cup of tea! :T:rotfl:
