Hi guys.
Hope you can give me some advice.
I left my previous employer about two months ago now. Did everything by the book, handed in a letter of resignation etc and moved onto my new job.
At the end of July I got a payslip through stating I had been paid by them. This is obviously an error on their behalf, I haven't worked for them for two months and told them I was leaving.
As this is clearly an error on their payroll departments behalf will I have to pay any money back? - I did everything by the book saying I was leaving...
any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I also contacted payroll this morning to advise them of this to stop any further payments - so I've been honest about it)

stick it in a savings account, and give them 3 months. then spend it.

Can they legally request it back though? I've done nothing wrong. Its their problem for not removing me from payroll...0

Yes, it is their money and they can legally ask for it back and expect to get it sent back to them immediately.
You know it's not yours, you should let them know their error.
If you want to be dishonest and keep it, then it is 6 years before it is yours, so you'd need to keep it 6 years.0 -

The OP has stated that he let the payroll dept know of the error! Sometimes i wonder why people comment who don't seem to have read the OP question?:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Yes, but the OP only let their former payroll department know this morning, after receiving the SECOND months pay...I think perhaps that was what PasturesNew meant...."I believe that everything happens for a reason. Where does it say the OP received a second months pay? It states he left 2 months ago and received a wage slip and pay at the end of July! Doesn't say anywhere in the post about receiving 2 months pay or am i missing something here?:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I would put a letter in wirting to them sent recorded delivery saying you have been overpiad for 2 months and if they are intending to recover the money. If you recieve a reply at least you will know what is happening and have something to refer to in future.0

Lol, my mistake, sorry! I'm a month ahead of myself!! The joys of having been made redundant...I can't remember what date it is!"I believe that everything happens for a reason. Me too. The OP didn't inform them there had been an error until this morning. The OP only told them during their employment that they were going to be leaving.0
