dca's

hi everyone first time on, i was looking for some advice, I have like alot of others been paying off debts to dca's for a number if years some not massive amounts but for at least 10 years, I am hearing more and more about these cca's? i know that these dca's only pay a precentage to buy the debt is there anyway we can find this out as I think i would have paid some of them off by now? Also I have recently been contacted by AIC Ltd about an old debt i had with a partner which goes back about 6 years and because i was so scared i went to the cab and they negotiated to pay 154.00 per month but this is reviewed every 6 months and each time they start putting pressure on me. this debt stands at 17000 and i know they will try to secure it someother way eventually. I would really appreciate any advice as i think it is unfair to pay back more than the debt was bought for:confused: please help thanks:A

    Hi Mason

Here is a link to thread which explains about requesting CCAs and what it can achieve http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1838099

Regarding the AIC debt. Was there a period of 6years (5 in Scotland) where you paid nothing towards the debt and did not acknowledge in writing that you owed it (before you started repaying again). If so the debt may be statute barred and you may not need to pay it at all.

Unfortunately there is no way to find out how much a debt was purchased for. If they debt has been sold to an external DCA (as opposed to a banks inhouse DCA pretending to be a seperate company) they may have paid anything from around 6p to 40p in the pound for it.
