Haha, thank you, I need something to lighten my mood. Just really scared they'll turn up and bully me, I used to work with someone who was a "debt collector" in his spare time, and it makes me sick to think of the tactics he used against people, and what a bully he was.

One of the debt agencies the debt was passed to called 197 times in one day. I took the hint and changed my number promptly...

My car insurance is high because I recently changed my car with my insurance company, and it's classed as a "classic car". I can't change them yet because I don't want to lose a years no claims... :-(

I didn't know I could complain about the phone calls?

DCA's are usually full of hot air. Don't let them bully you. They will threaten all sorts. Deal only in writing and ask them to put their threats in writing like I did. They soon stop!

Keep paying what you can afford. If it goes to court which is unlikely, then the judge will see that you are making every effort to pay your debts and may act in your favour and not theirs which is why DCA's are reluctant to take it that far.

Believe me, I've had all sorts of threats over the last few years...still waiting for them to act upon them though, including them apparently repossessing my mums house to clear my debts...would have costed them more than I owed in getting there as she lived in the US at the time!!!

National debtline website has some good template letters you can use.

Thank you so much for your responses, it's sort of comforting to know that there are other people going through similar things.

I called up both debt collection agencies today asking for a copy of my original credit agreement with Nationwide. However, the rather "helpful" people told me they don't have the agreements. They didn't advice me where I could get them, but it doesn't make sense as to how they know how much I owe?!

    Does anyone know?

To ask for a CCA you need to write a letter and send a £1 postal order, there are template letters on here somewhere. If they don't have the agreements then they can't take you to court, so it's up to you whether you pay or not.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Righto, the latest here is I've still not been able to get hold of copies for my original credit agreement...

Today I was sent a lovely letter (The contents of it being nearly entirely in capital letters!) from a sub-division of Wescot Debt Collection to say I have to pay the full amount immediately.

As I mentioned before, I am still paying ten pounds a month to them, I don't know if I'm wasting my time? They won't agree to the amount I have offered after a number of letters and phone calls, I don't know where this leaves me.
I'm starting to hope it will go to court.....

You're not wasting your time, it's important to keep paying because if it goes to court it shows you've been trying to pay and will look better for you, and worse for them for taking you to court anyway.
