When did you buy your dress?

How far in advance did you buy your dress?
I'm not engaged yet...:( but I hope it'll be soon a me and the OH are talking about it. Anyway. I was looking on Landy and I've found THE dress for me. It's in the special offers section and I'm worried that that means that they won't make the style when it comes to my wedding! I know you're all going to say but you're not even engaged yet and you might find another dress closer to the time, But as some of you know, when you see and know the dress, you know it's THE dress!
For all you who want to see which dress it is, go to landy and into the special offers and it's number 9.

Has there been a discussion between you and OH that you will get married, he just hasn't proposed yet? If not, I'd be careful bringing a wedding dress into the house!
Otherwise, I'd say any time is fine as long as you can guarantee your weight won't change and you don't think you'll see anything you prefer

If you want it, get it delivered to your mum/sisters house for goodness sakes!
I am not in a position to pick a dress, but I would have thought that there might be another when you actually want it. What is the hurry?0 -
Sorry this is slightly going off topic. I have heard LOTS of people mention Landy Bridals, so I just decided to go and take a look. A dress that I think I'm going to buy (£800 in shops) is €145 on this website. Can someone tell me why as I could potentially save £655!!!!!!!!!! Thanks xBride to Be - 28th August 2010 :dance:0

Yeah we've talked about actually getting married, and I've shown him a nice place i'd like to get married and he said it's spot on and we talked when we'd like to both do it, He just hasn't asked me yet. lol. That and he's very fussy about the type of ring he want's to get me. I've shown him the one I really love but he's said no, too cheap, has to be gold or platinum. I personally don't agree with expensive rings but he's very stubborn just like me

The way I see it, if you go back, look at the dress you like and see where's it's made, it will most likely be China/Taiwan or somewhere like that. They just cut out the middle sales man. Well, that's what I think anyway! What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -
The dresses you get from Landy are not the original desingers dress but a copy of that dress. The fabrics will be slightly different as well as any pattern and detailing. take a look at the landy thread, there you'll find photos of the dresses that Landy make so you can compare them to the originalsWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

Landy is cheaper because the dress isn't technically the same as the one you see in the shop. The one is the shop will have been designed by someone who receives a cut of the price of the dress for having designed it. The actual dress in the shop will most likely be made in China anyway but everyone involved in the making and shipping of the dress, plus there are the costs of running the bridal shop in terms of you going in to try it on and having premises to display the dress etc. And everyone is making a profit of course!
Landy and Milly don't have costs for you trying it on etc and don't have middle men and are essentially copying other people's designs so their costs are a lot less. I think they sometimes don't use as good quality materials compared to the ones you see in the bridal shops (e.g. boning not to same standard, less elaborate beading etc).
All this said, Landy and Milly offer amazing value for money - you just have to remember that what you get won't be the same as the dress in the shop.0 -
Thanks a lot for your replies, I know it's not very MSE but I think I'm just going to go with the actual dress. I love it so much that I don't think I'd be happy if it wasn't exactly like the picture.
Neneromanova - I'm in exactly the same situation as you. Me and OH aren't engaged YET but we have decided to get married next year. He has bought my ring and it will be ready to pick up in 8 days. The excitement for me is knowing that he is going to ask me but just not knowing the date. I know it's backwards but it's working well for us as I'm not living in the UK at the moment so we can crack on with the planning instead of me having to wait for him to decide when the 'right' moment is!Bride to Be - 28th August 2010 :dance:0 -
It's only 8 months till my wedding, and I went dress shopping for the first time at the weekend. I had already found my dress online, it was the one, perfect in every way, my dream dress. so went to try it on, and hated it! it looked awful on me, the style didnt fit my shape and it burried me! i8n the end all the dress's i liked were what I had originally said I hated, fishtails, lace ect. so i would say don't bother, you will get your chance and when it comes it will be the right time : )DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 315Married 03/04/2010with many thanks to MSE Wedding boardLO 23/03/12 Special thanks to TTC thread0

am i just really old fashioned in thinking that the right way to do things is to get engaged before you start planning weddings??
seriously now i would chill out, how can you possibly enjoy being engaged (which in itself is a big step in a relationship) if you have already jumped past it to the next stage!!
slow down, relax, let him ask (if hes still going to after seeing such hints of bridezilla), enjoy the engagement, plan your wedding on both of your terms!
and im sorry for the term bridezilla, personally i hate it, but for me someone buying a wedding dress and planning details before even getting engaged does scream such a term!
