How do you test an egg?

Can somebody remind me does a fresh egg float or sink? :confused:

    Thanks for that, now I can use up the ones I have without killing anyone, they all float. A nice fruit cake I think. :T

    If it is off the egg will float - more air will enter the egg as the liquid in the egg evaporates. A very fresh egg will sink quickly, the older the slower - HTH

    Woops, got that the wrong way round didn't I? my only excuse is that's it's been a long day, will get some new eggs in the morning. :confused:

    Thanks to everyone for your advice. Bought some fresh eggs this morning,( well it was yesterday now) There's a nice,fat free, fruit cake ready for Sunday tea. :j

    Just a quick question when you test eggs in water are they ok is they sink and bad if they float or is it the other way round?
