Fruit juice concentrate?

Does anyone know where I can by fruit juice concentrate?

I don't mean fruit juice made from concentrate that you can buy everywhere.OH and I are trying to cut down on the amount of rubbish we produce and those waxed card cartons the juice (and other things) comes in are very difficult to recycle - you have to flatten them and post them somewhere at your own cost.

Bernadine Lawrence in her 'Feed Your Family for Five Pounds a Day' has fruit juice concentrate on her shopping list,I can even see a bottle of what I assume is apple concentate in the picture on the back of the book. But I've never found it anywhere.

Can anyone help?

You used to be able to get frozen orange juice concentrate, but I haven't seen that for years!

In her recipes I replace the concentrate with pure juice (not juice drink - pure juice!) and that I get from Lidl.

Also, check out your health food shops - they really are a great place for hidden gems of all sorts of things (as I am discovering!) :D

Thanks,Queenie, yes, pure juice is what I use-those juice 'drinks' are just full of sugar! I remember buying frozen Florida OJ too but where has it all gone?I will definitely try a health food shop :)

I think I've seen apple juice concentrate in Holland and Barrett, and I'm pretty sure it came in a glass bottle. I don't know how long a bottle would last, so how cost effective it would be.
Another option is surely to get a juicer, and then the only rubbish is the waste on the fruit which you could compost? And your juice would be fresh!

I used to get apple juice concentrate through Suma, although the last time I ordered it it didn't arrive and since then they have only sold it in the larger sizes. Maybe there isn't the demand for smaller sizes? The smallest size of an individual carton they have now is 5litres which should retail at £22.65, although they have multipacks of smaller sizes that retail at roughly £3 for under 500ml - both Suma own brand and Meridian. I used to buy a 2litre bottle.

Thanks for your replies,I've just been to H&B and no luck.I'll try a search of online health food stores.I think the self-juicing idea is great! but we already get through about 12 lb of apples a week! take your point about waste though.Thing is,I'd like to get apple and orange juice concentrate.

Would you then add water to the concentrate to make juice to drink. Please forgive my ignorance.

I have not looked recently but remember seeing in Sainsburys in the freezers little pots that where OJ concentrate.

Not sure if they still do it.

It was a while ago I saw them. Like about a year ago.

I have a feeling it was in with the frozen fruit/ice cubes and desserts.

    All the best.
