Sofas won't go through door :(

Don't know if it's an option but if you have double glazing it will cost about £25 for a glazer to come out and removed the window and refit it for you - this is what we did when we moved :rolleyes:You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0

You should try to hold the sofa horizontally, just raised up from the floor but facing the way you will be exiting the door, so if you want to go to the right with it as you get it through the door then it should be faced that way. Then rotate 45 degrees it as if you are tipping it forward. Then move the part that is furthest from the door you are going through slightly to the right (in this example), then try to get the arm through the door first, just the arm though. Once this is through move the sofa slowly back to the left (in this example) and continue.
I hope you know what I mean.
Basically:
If the sofa will stand on its end and is shorter than the door tyou should try to swivel it out as suggested.
If not you should try the 'arm first method'.
Make sure you take all the feet off it first.
The last resort is to find a couple of guys who deliver furniture: Removals / Harveys / Co-Op / World of Leather, etc. and offer them £20+ to do it for you. If they can't get it through then nobody can, you will have to pay 'cash in hand' if you know what I mean and still pay them if it doesn't work. You could offer them a tenner to have a look and another if they get it out the house.
If a sofa delivery guy cannot do it then it cannot be done, they get this problem every day.0 -
Sadly, they're only a couple of years old, BUT our kitties have scratched one arm down to the wood. Lovely soft expensive suite, but simply because of the shredded arm, they don't come up to reg standards. Not sure I'd like to let the place furnished anyhow - maybe I'll ask on the "mortgage/homes" board if anyone recommends furnished letting
. Still no go with them - just to the right of the doorway we've stairs too. I'm gutted to be honest. 0 -
I had the same trouble when moving in here. The bottom of the stairs curls round in a tight corner and theres a little door at the bottom of the stairs. Hardly anything I had would menouvre round the corner. I had to take the sofa bed apart and get a DIY knowledgeable person to put it back together when it was upstairs. Then I had to get rid of the bed altogether and sleep on the floor for a while.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Thanks Skintel for pm'ing me. Unfortunately the window is also too small for the sofa to go through, and it's not dg'd. Seems we've come to the cut it and see option - it MIGHT be worth re-upholstering, but somehow I doubt it.
Thanks anyhow,
