Well done Champys - a medal for you too. I must admit I was wondering about doing the reverse and putting buttons on these pesky trousers but would a bloke used to having a quick zip have the patience to undo buttons? Dunno, but don't want any puddles.

Thanks Rikki, lace up trousers, now there's a thought, can't see them going down a storm with DH but maybe I'll just put the trousers away in case times get really tough, who know's what we might have to resort to?

I've looked at the link. I can put a zip in first time round but it's the getting in there to 'replace' that's baffling me:confused:

You could just sew up the front when he's in them and tell him not to pee.

When I was younger my mum taught me a trick to pull the zip down to the bottom again, make a small cut just above the length of the zipper thingy, rejoin the zip and sew from the base of the zip to just above the cut and rejoin part. Has saved me a fortune in zip replacements and new clothes over the years.
Don't know if that helps you in this situation.

Ooo Tilly, that might just have helped had I not started to unpick all the seams in the placket on one side.

Might try velcro or failing that Rikki's idea sounds a possibility, could convert them into drainpipes.

I used to replace zips in the 70's when clothes cost a lot more but to be honest now I wouldn't too much faff!! But now you have started get out that zipper foot and try!! make sure you tack everything securely in place and it will be fine!! Good luck.

Poor hubby. Why not give him self respect by letting him have decent clothes?
You obviously haven't checked out their mens clothes recently. Hubby is a very canny man and hates wasting money at so called 'superior' stores. He's also very well turned out & not a scruff, despite the lack of 'labels'.

Ah DianneB, now there's a challenge. I've hidden them away at the bottom of the pending pile for the moment but one day when I feel the need to prove myself, I probably will have a go. It will give me a reason for living when we are just a couple of poor pensioners.
