Homemade Baked Beans?

I've searched the mega indexed thread so sorry if I've missed it, but does anyone have a recipe for homemade baked beans. My children love beans on toast but I prefer them to eat homemade where possible.

    Hi
My Grandma used to do a lovely Boston Baked Beans, unfortunaetly I don't have her recipe anymore, but with all these to choose from I'm sure you'll find one - they are not quite the same as tinnned beans, they are much better.

    Hi pollys,

Some of the replies on this older thread might help:

HM baked beans and tinned tomatoes.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Made some a while ago, I am sure the recipe was from one of the Jamie Oliver books.

    Tin of haricot beans,
    Tin chopped tomatoes,
    Veg stock,
    Brown sugar.
Blend tomatoes, stock and sugar (to personal taste, i add a little at a time so i get the right consistency and taste, dont like it too sugary) Reduce until syrupy. Add to beans and warm through. If using dried beans, i guess you would have to soak them first.

Its not cheap for beans, but I buy baked beans from Turkish food shops. No sugar (or concentrated apple juice or anything). They're about £1 a pot and I bulk up with a couple of fresh toms if I have. Good for a snack when there's not much in.

    Hi all

I'm looking for a 'british' baked beans recipe.

I have done a search on the web & here and can't find what i'm looking for. I have the haricot beans I just need the recipe now :). We go through quite a few tins a week here and I have to buy the reduced sugar/fat type so I thought making my own would be more economical.

    Thanks

Hi, Don't get excited just yet. I have got a recipe that i used for making HM baked beans a few years ago but i will have to find it out again, the trouble with me is I have so many OS cookery books that i have to trawl through them to find it. Actually i was just thinking last weekend that i should make them again. Ds and DD loved them. The trouble is that i woun't have time to look for it until the weekend. Toooooooo much work to do and am also making Plum jam and trying to pick elderberries in the evening when i take the dog for her walk. I will get back to you though.

    Tin haricot beans,
    Tin chopped tomatos,
A little stock and brown sugar to taste.

Bring to the boil, then simmer until syrupy!!!
Use a lot of stock if you like a runny sauce, less for a thicker one!!!!

Thanks All (thanks buttons not working for me sorry  )

Will have to have an experiment - have been warned they better taste like the real thing

Whats with the pork in the recipes? I found aload like this when i did a web search but presumed that it was an american pork & beans dish rather than what we know as baked beans
