Advice needed, parent's default affecting child?

Hi I don't know if this is the right place but I'm just looking for some advice:
My OH was living with his parent when they remortgaged their house when he was 17.
They defaulted on their mortgage last year (when my OH was 18).
Apparently when they remortgaged they were asked if any of the children would reach 18 during the term of the agreement, they answered yes and gave my OH's details.
My first questions is why would they need to know this?
Secondly, my OH has been told (or got it into his head!) that because they defaulted on the mortgage and he was over 18 when it happened, that is somehow affecting his credit score. Is this true and how?
I thought addresses weren't blacklisted (and he doesn't live there anymore anyway).
And as his name isn't on the agreement how can it affect him at all?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

Your BF will not have been effected by the default, to make sure you'll need to contact the credit reference agencies to ensure that BF and Parents aren't recorded as financially connected. He probably isn't but its easy to get them 'unassociated'.
Its standard practice for lenders to find out whether dependants are over 17 - I think its so that, if repossession takes place, a notice can be provided. Its got nothing to do with holding your BF accountable for his parents mortgage in anyway.0 -
That's great I'm glad that's been clarified for me
Thank you for your help :T0
