Terrible two weeks spending - I'm such an idiot

Miffi wrote:Thanks everyone for your support. I think part of it (this is going to sound really daft) was I suddenly thought that I looked really scruffy and dowdy and felt that I needed some new things.
I am a cheery, bubbly, chatty type person (not exactly shy) but I always think I look scruffy and don't like the way I look. But I'm going to deal with this (in a non spending way) to get myself back on track confidence wise.
Oh Miffi Miffi - are you sure you aren't *me*? :rotfl:
I can relate to this completely.
If you want to PM me please feel free because I have been through this and may have a few little bits of advice...or at least a few tales to share!

Or *me* !!!
I spend £50 in Primark last week, so we all do it, just think of it as a blip and get back on track. It's like dieting - one doughnut doesn't blow the diet, just get back on the calorie (pound) counting again.
At least we both have some nice clothes now!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hiya Miffi!
Don't worry, we all sometimes slip up! Just do like you said and make sure you have lots of nice food for your lunches to stop the temptation of spending. As for the clothes, we all need new stuff occasionally! You've done it now so how about having a smaller budget for next week to make up for it?

We all have weak moments - me included! But as the others have said, the most important thing is, you've realised that you've slipped up and are now getting back on track.
I've edited this just to add, that so far this year I haven't paid to get my hair done at all - have been going to training nights at top salons and getting my highlights done for absolutely nowt - worth a try and you get double the satisfaction from looking great and not spending a penny!!
Congratulate yourself on everything you've achieved so far, and remember how great it's going to be when you're debt free!!!
Have a lovely weekend xxxIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
Why don't you have a few girls round one night and have a girlie night, a bit of a pamper, use up all those free samples that are usually lurking in the bottom of your make up stuff.
Have a sort out in your wardrobe and unearth all those clothes that you had forgotton you had and with your friends try and make some new "brighter" combinations that you usually can't figure out on your own.
If everyone brings a bottle and some nibbles you would have a good night at very little cost. You could always get everyone to bring their faviourite DVD/Video and vote for the best to watch.0 -
I can only echo what everyone has said in here.
Living on a tight budget to pay off your debts is hard work and full of sacrafices.. its totally understandable to need to break free of it once in a while. I keep by £20 each month for myself and in the past year saved up enough money to buy myself an ipod for my birthday, which made me feel really good about how well sorted my finances have become.
Try to take a positive from it - the tips you've picked up from here will help you get back on track quickly, and that is reason enough to justify your 'treat'!!Student moneysaving club - member no. 6Uni Reading0 -

YOU ARE NOT AN IDIOT. You know what happened; it stopped you dead in your tracks and made you look back at your plan. Well done.
Recognising these feelings in the future wii help you keep in control of your life.
Lots of helpful advice on this thread. Good luck.'You can't change the past, you can only change the future' Gary Boulet.

Hiya Miffi please don't beat yourself up about it as previous posters have said we all do it me included..*shuffles about adjusting her new jeans*
The good thing is you have a concience about it now so you ARE making progress..a few more weeks and you'll be putting it back on the rails and leaving the shop running :rotfl: Keep at it we're always here to help each other thats what MSE is all about

Hi Miffi,
As has been said before it's like a diet. The trick is not to think "well I've blown it now, so no point in trying", but to say whoops, better get back on track pdq.
Just wish I could follow my own advice!
Yeah, if it's confession time, me too. OH and I have been out for 3 (!EEEK) meals in the past 2 weeks. This has been what I've missed over the last months, not clothes, and I can budget for food with the best but no meals out boo.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
