Please Help: Partner's debt threatens our future

Hi, i could really do with some advice here- my boyfriend is 24 and in quite a bit of debt. He took a £10,000 loan out a few years ago and he currently pays back £180 a month. This won't be paid off for at least 3 years. He also has finance on a car, which is now in negative equity, and pays about £500 a month on it because he has some points on his licence. He earns about £16500 a year but he has practically nothing to live on. He still lives at home with his parents, as do i, but i want to move out and for us to get our own place. I have a clean credit rating and have no debts. What can he do to get rid of his debt quicker? I want to settle down and have a family but can't afford to even live with him until his debts clear. Please help!
Also, the finance on the car had to be taken out under his mum's name because he was refused credit - thats how bad his situation is! thanks so much.
