partner's debts - help

Hi there, I wonder if anyone could offer some advice. My partner is in the process of moving to my address (renting my spare room) and has outstanding debts from his marriage. They have split the debts so these are all his responsibility. He had a rough 12 months last year and has sadly neglected to pay anything to these.
Roughly there is 3 credit cards and an Alliance and Leicester loan. They total 28k I believe.
Last November he took moves to address this by going to CAB, they negotiated with the parties and suggested payment plans. At the time he opted to ignore these so didn't phone to accept, deciding he would just go bankrupt.
He hasn't by any means had a lightbulb moment, (YET she says in hope..) but can see now that he should have accepted the plan and wants to start paying off instead of seeing if he can go bankrupt. He can afford the suggested plan, but can't afford the original repayments.
If he contacts them all now, what are the chances they will accept him starting to make the suggested CAB payments or will they say ' tough luck, too late, we want original.'. Apparently Alliance and Leicester have been phoning his wife regularly about it, but she 'doesn't know where he lives' any more.
After leaving it so long I know he is really scared to start dealing with it, even though he knows it is the right thing to do. I just want to be able to support him as much as I can, so am information gathering.
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what they will say bit there is no harm in asking. Are you sure it was the Citizens advice bureau that arranged things for him. I didn't think they actually did it, I thought they referred you to CCCS or Payplan. But I could be wrong here.
Have a look at the stickies at the top of the forum page and see if one of the other Charities could help.0 -
Thanks for the reply tottallybroke. Yes, was definately CAB, some of the correspondence is here and seems they have acted as a third party kinda - Alliance and Leicester have written to him c/o the local CAB. Now I have foudn that letter I can see the A&L loan is 18k. Scary to see on paper
Yes, I will read through the stickies at the top and see if I can glean more info, thanks. He just texted and said he would try phoning A&l tonight if he gets home from work early enough, that is a big start.LMB: 2005 and got rid of £80k debt in 4 years (including getting mortgage down to 38k)
