How long to cook a cake in one tin? It's in the oven already!

Hiya,
I'm using a recipe for a chocolate cake that requires it to be cooked in two 8in cake tins for 40-50 mins.
Because I've not done any baking for a while (watching my weight!) I had forgotten that one of my cake tins had met a sticky end, and now I only have the one tin.
I have put it all in the one tin, but should I cook it for longer than the recipe says, or keep to the same timings?
It's an 8oz and 4 egg recipe.
Many thanks

Yes, cook it for at least 15 mins longer. But start testing it after 10 mins to be sure you don't overcook it -use a skewer stuck in the middle, if it comes out gooey it aint cooked;)
I doubled up a banana cake recipe to make a 2 lb loaf cake rather than a 1lb one and I ended up cooking it for nearly twice as long. Different sort of cake though.
Edit : You may need to cover the top with foil if it browns too much.0 -
Thank you thriftlady! The original tie was up, and it's still really gooey on the inside, so I'll check on it every 10 mins or so until it's done.
Smells lovely though. Hope my son likes it, it's his birthday cake for tomorrow!0 -
Mine take about 90mins...
Just keep testing it every 20 mins or so and if the top starts to burn but the testing stick is still coming out gooey, then turn the oven down one mark and carry on with the 20 min checks.

It took about 1hr 15 mins in the end. Now I'm just hoping I don't wreck it when I split it in two for filling.
Will serve me right for not replacing the other tin!0
