'Normal' casseroles in the SC?

This is probably a stupid question, but can you cook 'normal' casserole recipes in a SC? For example, one of my favourite casseroles is Delia's braised lamb with flageolet beans. I usually cook it in the oven at 160 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Do you think it would work if I cooked it in the SC instead? I've also got a lovely Nigella recipe for a beef stew that I cook in the oven for around 3 hours at 120 degrees - could I do that in the SC instead?

cant see any probs with doing them in SC - I do all my stews and casseroles in mine

if you put them on low then they would obviously take longer

These ones that need long slow cooking in the oven are the ideal sort to transfer to the slow cooker instead, just leave them cooking on low for 6 - 8 hours instead.

  • I do a beef stew in my sc with

A pack of value stewing steak from tesco cut up small and browned
3 carrots peeled and cut up small
3 parsnips peeled and cut up small
1 swede peeled and cut up small
1 tin of cambells condensed oxtail soup (half fill the tin with water to rinse and put that in as well)
1 bouqet garni (tea bag type thing found with the herbs ans spices)
handful of pearl barley chucked in half way through cooking if possible

Put it all in your slow cook on low in the morning and will be ready by tea time, remember to take the bouquet garni out before you serve it.

You can easily cook conventional recipes in the SC. Reduce the liquids required slightly as you dont get as much evaporation using a SC. HTH
