Me and kids are still on school holidays. The positive thing for the day will be a pyjama day!
  • I got told off at the Job Centre a fortnight ago as I hadn't applied for anything during the two weeks between signing. I explained there had been no suitable jobs in the period, which wasn't accepted as a valid reason. I looked the woman in the eye and asked her if she really thought I wouldn't apply for a position if it was suitable - This is the first time in my 20-year working life I've not had a job, I have a mortgage to pay, wife and child to support with no help from the government I've paid tax and NI to all my life!

She told me that I should apply for jobs even if I deemed them unsuitable, therefore wasting my time and the company I apply to. Apparently it's not for me to decide whether I'm suitable or not (despite 12 years working in recruitment). I was rather hoping there would be no suitable jobs again, as I was going to apply to be CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority and Head of Science at a local school...

oh don't let that put you off applying for the one in the CAA. I would love to hear what she said next time you went in and said "you never know i might be flying you to your summer destination this year" :rotfl::rotfl:

  • well my positive day has turned into a rather negative one

Got a notification of intended prosecution through the post today, courtesy of the local constabulary.. Caught doing 40mph in a 30mph zone :mad::mad:

Apparently this will equate to at least three points and a £60 fine, if not more!

Also got a notice from BG saying they are adding my outstanding debt of £230 to my electricity meter which will then take off £8 a week when I top up  As this debt is pre BR, which they are aware of I phoned them to be told they have a big backlog in the BR dept and all they can do is reimburse me when my case has be sorted :mad::mad:

Not a positive day at all

  • Sorry to hear that! I received a similar speeding notice just after going BR - I left it 28 days before sending my reply and have decided they can take me to court. I reckon I'll get away with paying £1 per month for the next 5 years with my current income!

40 in a 30 will be the standard £60 and 3 points unless you contest it, in which case it could be less but it will probably be more. So accept the fixed penalty unless you are sure there has been an error as you don't want it costing you more!

Sorry to hear about the BG thing too dream, not a good day is it! Well things can only get better I guess :)

    Take care,

    Cheers

  • I accept that I did it, very naughty of me I know. Funny thing is I don't usually speed, can't even remember where I was going thtat day or why I was hurtling along!

I don't mind paying the fine, but they don't give you the option to pay in instalments, £60 is a big chunk to find in one go.. 1mph less and I could have got a speed awareness course instead. Baahh!

  • I didn't see the "safety" camera and went through it just short of 90 in a 70... I figure they can't get the money if I don't have it! I'm unemployed and receive no benefits - where can I get £60 from?

In much the same way as these fines cannot be written off by a bankruptcy order, I think they are wanting people to feel the hardship of one of these fines, in the hope that they will be deterred from offending again.

So to be honest I doubt there would be much leniency - it's not really their problem that you drove through nearly 20mph over the limit. It hurts, yes, but these things aren't designed to be nice!

If I were you I would bite their hand off if they're offering a fixed penalty as now there's a risk that the judge might make you pay substantially more (court costs aren't cheap) so you'll be paying it for longer if they do agree to a payment plan anyway.
