Urgent advice re MIL's wedding hat required please!

My darling MIL2B has just informed us that she's returned her (beautiful) hat back to the shop as she didn't feel right in it. I've got to take her shopping tomorrow to the Metrocentre in Gateshead to find a replacement - it's the only day I can do as we get married in 10 days!

She's wanting a black or purple hat (a bright purple - jewel shade) and I've been looking online at Debenhams, M&S and House of Fraser but haven't had any luck in finding a purple hat.

Have any of you lovely Northern ladies seen any around the Newcastle/Gateshead area? I'd be very grateful for any advice (so will she, as then I won't have to throttle her )

Does she have to wear a hat? How about a fascinator? Hobbycraft have some fantastic fascinators in-store.
Other than that BHS? I would of suggested the shops you have already suggested. How about looking online and getting next day delivery but you probably have to order tomorrow.

Have a look at these people: https://www.throughlymodernmillinery.co.uk - they also hire hats. Unless MIL2B is going to wear the hat again, it might be better to hire one - its ok the hats will be clean and can remember my mum hiring one when I got married (stupid child that I was at the time:rolleyes: ).

Thanks, hun - I've suggested fascinators but she's not sure. I think it's because my mum is wearing a HUGE, very expensive hat

I will try to get her to have a look at them though.

Thanks, Horace - I've just had a look at the website and it's just down the road from us, so that'll be first stop in the morning!

I'd got her this one from M&S which I loved (and it was such a bargain) but it's the one that she's taken back because she says the brim catches on her jacket collar .

I will try there again if I don't strike lucky at the hat hire place (I'm worried she'll think it's too expensive there )

    Thanks, luv!

Take her jacket with you, so she can try the hats with it on.....

    Hi Minxy,

My mum travelled up to County Durham to a little shop to get her outfit for my wedding and I know they have loads of fab hats there, but at the moment I can't find the info about it. I think it was in somewhere called Easington Village if I remember correctly...

Is that too far for you? If not, I'll give mum a ring and get the details for you. :-)

    Good luck!

I was in Jacques Vert with my mum looking at wedding outfits - they've got quite a few hats - can't remember if any were purple though, but might be worth a look!
