I put my car in for an MOT and if anything was wrong i would have 2 weeks to get the work done for a re- test @ no extra cost, Not any more! MOT's have gone all computerised since December so if you take the car from the station you will have to pay for another MOT, not cheap. A nice little earner for the MOT station as most people will get them to do any work that has failed the MOT as people wont want to pay for another MOT.

Just had mine MOT'ed. If it had failed it would £20 for a retest done within 2 weeks after that it would be full price. This was at a MOT test center that only does MOT's.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Not really as my mechanic was telling me, the new MOT takes longer to process etc so they do less tests per day so the only way for them to recoup the money is to charge for a retest.
Morale of the story is make sure you get a good trustworthy mechanic to service your car before you get it MOT'd..I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -

A free retest after taking away the car was always a commercial decision by the station. Legally they only have to give a free retest if you left the car with them & they did the work or you bought it back the next day with trivial stuff like changing bulbs.0
