I've only tried leek so far so I dont really know what vege would be a good substitute. Anyone else got any idea?

You could try using mushrooms instead of leeks (or mushrooms and leeks together for leek-eaters). We often have a delia smith pasta bake with leeks and bacon, and I often add mushrooms to give us another portion of veg, and find they go quite well together.

Ooh, sounds good b-s. Thanks for this. We usually do a leek and bacon pasta bake (a la macaroni cheese),but this sounds a good alternative. As far as other veggies go, I'd be tempted to try bacon and brocolli.
  • That sounds delish!

banana cake sounds nice but is it? and is it easy to make or another pudding idea :D

Oh god yes....I love bananabread.....in fact, I might just have to make some this weekend.

The only bad thing about bananabread is that it tastes better with really black bananas. I can't abide the smell of ripe banana - so I put them in the freezer until I'm ready to bake. (which can be a while, so sometimes I end up with about two dozen 'orrible black bananas in the freezer, and no room for food!)

This would be used as a side dish to meat etc wouldn't it? If it is I expect it would feed more than 3 people. Sounds nice. I just made a Potato & Leek soup for the first time yesterday and really loved the flavour so I think I would like this too. I used a Delia recipe. I'm getting to be a real little closet Pom hey. :D There is a lot of grit in leeks isn't there? It took about three good rinses to get it all off.

    Hiya Black-saturn!
I made the fruit cobbler last night with fruit cocktail and cooked it slowly so as it wouldn't be soggy in the middle. Must have cooked it too long but it was still nice! Only used 3/4 of a cup of sugar, might use whole cup next time and use a more shallow dish. Thanks!!

    Hi

Did you make them into walnut size balls first-so quite small then squash them with a fork. Only take about 10mins to cook and should have a shortbread texture. Maybe you put too close together, or too many on a tray:confused: Never had a problem...sorry hun.
