Happy St. Patricks day???
Not if you live in the Holylands area. what a bunch of little sh1ts.. now people can bleat on about the police being heavy handed (and possibly they were) but those arrogant, idiotic little sh1ts getting drunk like that and wrecking the street.. they don't deserve their uni place and I hope the uni's have the balls to expel those worst offenders...
But apart from that I had a lovely day off:T :T Hope the rest of you did to!!0 -
my husband works for a pair of irish ground workers and they are the most ignorant horrible foul mouthed people you could wish to meet0

I agree. They use the day to get !!!!ed and howl about like buffoons flying their greenery in some tribal show of strength. They haven't even got a clue about St.Patrick and the work he did. St.Patrick would be ashamed!

Yeah we are all like that;)
Hope everyone had a good day yesterday and the hangovers aren't tooooo bad:beer:I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
The day went fantastically well by all accounts - thousands and thousands out celebrating. In context of the sheer numbers involved around the 32 counties the skirmish in Belfast was relatively minor - a few cars got damaged, nobody got killed or seriously injured. The students around there are a source of antagonism anyway, not just on 17 March. The majority of us are peace loving happy people.0

I agree as well- disgraceful
I lived down in University Avenue in the mid 90's and there was nothing like this going on in the area
I found this on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjQVDNxWb0E- these people are the future?!!? As if we werent bad enough lol.
Its now so territorial- I remember I went to Queens to get away from the small insular town I grew up in, from its bigoted people, how I dreamed I would meet people from different walks of life, learn new and interesting things (well i was dreaming of a world where all the men looked like Morrissey lol)...well now, it seems that these kids (and thats what they are - they are so not adults) have brought all that insular crap, bigotry and sectarianism with them them, cos its great 'craic'. Do they meet anyone outside their little GAA world or anyone who doesnt read the Irish News??
When I went to Queens, I met loads of different people from the UK and ROI and other areas of the North and I think thats what university is about...I used to always think belfast was a great uni city- now i would discourage anyone from letting their kid get caught up in that...
Obviously the universities dont really want anything to do with it, probably worried about getting sued or losing out on grants:rolleyes:
well thats my rant over ...I agree. They use the day to get !!!!ed and howl about like buffoons flying their greenery in some tribal show of strength. They haven't even got a clue about St.Patrick and the work he did. St.Patrick would be ashamed!

My daughter was at a house party off university ave yesterday wiv other students - they were well behaved, had a few drinks and went to student union. She knew nothing of trouble until she came home at 2am! Mind you I phoned her when I saw the news at 6pm - bet lots of parents did the same. Might have been a shock for some if they saw their loved ones on the news. Pity a minority can make life h*ll for the local residents. As for the news reporters saying these were our future lawyers and doctors - get real - more like our future call centre operators!0

Do you really think that "insular crap, bigotry and sectarianism" is the monopoly of just one of the two major communities in N.Ireland? You are stereotyping.0 -

I believe she was referring to the holylands and possibly Queens.
Included in this article are words of a former Republican prisioner who lived in the Holylands."Brian Gillen, who served 10 years in Long Kesh as a republican prisoner, lived in the Holyland after release. He says there was no trouble from Protestant students but Catholic students, post-peace process, became increasingly sectarian and contemptuous: "You'd try to sleep against a backdrop of shouts of 'Up the Ra'.
"Anyone challenging them was deemed a Protestant and got a mouthful of sectarian abuse. They weren't genuine republicansjust cowardly !!!!!!. One night, students in the house next door to me were partying at 5am.
"My child couldn't sleep. I asked them to turn it down. 'F**k off you Orange !!!!!!!!'
one told me as the 'Boys of the Old Brigade' blasted from their stereo. 'I'll give you the 'Boys of the Old Brigade'.' I said. I got laid into them." Gillen has also moved out: "I'm one of the lucky ones. My heart goes out to people still left there. It's only going to get worse."0
