When to 'do' the cake?!

If you're getting married late afternoon and not planning on a sit down meal, but rather just a few drinks/nibbles until the evening reception, when do you 'do' the cake? (ie cut it, have photos of/with it etc)

It's something that's just dawned on me!

  • I'm doing it twice!

The first time, we're cutting the cake just after our speeches, before the wedding breakfast (we don't want to spoil our meal by fretting about public speaking!) - so we're cutting the middle tier then.

The second time is at our evening do, just before the buffet so that the bottom tier can be served as a pudding.

It's entirely up to you when you do it - whenever you want really.

    Hi & thanks!

That's a good idea isn't it - I'd just have to find someone who would be willing to cut the cake to serve. (After we have 'cut' the cake of course!) :)

  • We're doing ours when evening guests arrive. It gives them something to see as they'll have not been to the ceremony.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T

Rachel85 - a great idea...we were planning to serve the cake in the evening with the buffet but it makes loads of sense to cut it then too...thanks for the inspiration!!

We did the cutting of cake (and we did cut all the slices ourselves!) when we had the urge to. We didn't plan it.

Are you have more people join you in the evening and if so do you want to give them cake??

Photos of you cutting the cake are usually done when the photographer is still there, you don't actually cut the cake just pose with the knife poised above the cake.

Its your wedding so you can choose when you actually want to cut the cake.

It will be a small amount of numbers for the service (20ish), but there will be 100+ people invited to the evening ~ I don't mind giving them cake at all :)

I've got 2 photographers who will be part of the whole day & night as they are family members.

I know you don't have to actually 'cut' the cake when the pictures are taken, but if it will be getting served right after, there's no point why we shouldn't cut it.
