DFW's money saving tips....

I really need to get serious and cut back on my spending and just buy "needs" rather than "wants" ;) I couldn't find an existing thread of all the DFW's money saving tips on here so thought I'd ask you all to post your tips and things you have learned so I can learn from you....

I like the idea of NSD's in principle but, like dieting, I need to find the willpower :rotfl:but I know that's a big help to a lot of you....

any more?

I have to second that link from Queen.Bess... It really helps you to 'take control' of things.

I don't think anyone expects a DFW'er to embark on their mission 100% sticking to every DFW principle - although hats off to those that do! I have certainly found slow and steady to be the way for us, and that means after looking at finances and problem areas, to tackle just some at a time. So for me that has meant as a starting point, arranging for OH to transfer his share of money weekly to me, rather than doing it at the end of the month and panicking because we've eaten into it somewhere along the line and spent too much on "this and that." It also means a couple of other things (being careful with grocery money and sorting out repayments for all our debts) but it ALSO means not kicking myself for not taking on the whole world in one go.

I have also found working through financial matters with OH rather than just taking it on myself has really helped get OH on board and understand where I am coming from. He tried to tell me he couldn't afford to pay for grocery shopping as well as the rent each week and I said, well actually you can - he really didn't think he could because he hadn't sat down and worked it out so I showed him ;):D
