It's a pity Ken Clarke....

Isn't the leader of the opposition, I've just seen him on Sky, he has charisma, authority and a style that would have made mince meat of Brown in the last few months, Cameron and Osborne are lightweights in comparison.

....yeah, but he wears Hush Puppies !!!!!

Actually I think you are right, in fact if he had taken over from John Major things may have been different.

He was a pretty decent Chancellor too during his time in office, mainly cos he knew his limitations and kept it simple.

He's kinda stern but cuddly, I like him. In a way I agree, he'd be a very good answer to the question that is Brown. For image and gravitas he's the same but with a sense of humour...and the politics issue.:)

Anyway, I think his current role was appointed fairly consideredly and makes a big comment on the relationship between Chancellor/PM/and [STRIKE]slime[/STRIKE] Buisiness whatever he is-son. It doesn't 'dis' Osbourne and yet, Osbourne is now an answer to the very quiet and nice seeming Darling. I think its rather clever myself.

Like all jobs, many people aren't doing it because they're the best ... it's because of other things, like who they know, if they're ginger, having a good side for camera shots, etc. Important things. Ability never comes into it!

    Never a truer word spoken.
  • Never been more disappointed in anyone in my life than in Brown.

Certainly do like Ken Clarke, glad he's back. Nothing against Cameron though, or his 'number 2' Hague.
  • I quite like Clark (I met him once too and he seemed a decent sort) but I don't hold with his pro-federal Europe views.

He doesn't wear Hush Puppies by the way!! They looked like quite expensive suede shoes when I met him - from Trickers I think.

I agree, however with the Euro about to implode, he may well be keeping his european stance in the background.
  • notice how he has taken over from Gideon as Shadow Chancellor. OK so Gids still holds the job title, but he spends his days making "Walter Mitty" jibes whilst Clarke delivers the actual economic critique.
