We have a pup and after checking out exactly what goes into dog food and treats, I thought I'd try and see what I could make him myself - does anyone already do this? If so I'd really appreciate some recipes
Thanks in advance!

My friend once baked some liver in a low oven for quite a while until it dried then broke it up into tiny pieces for training her dog. It worked very well, is full of protein & cheap! I'd google it as well there's bound to be something out there. Also check out some of the reputable dog training web sites (Dog Borstal springs to mind) and see what they say. I have a Labrador and a Beagle who eat anything in sight but their favourite training treat is cheese cut up into tiny pieces! HTH0

A friend makes liver cake for her dogs, they love it. Done a quick google and there are a few recipes, mostly similar - a couple of options

Hi mennie,
I've added your recipe to our homemade dog treats thread.

I make liver treats but you can also easily make tuna treats. Mix an equal amount of flour with a drained can of tuna, add an egg and turn into a shallow microwave dish. Microwave until firm, takes about 5 mins in my rather low powered microwave.
This was useful on holiday as quick and easy to make and not much washing up. Livertreats need an industrial dishwasher to clean up afterwards!"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -
I also steer away from all dog treats you buy in the shops. I just give my dog bread as a treat. It is pretty plain to us but my dog treats it like caviar.0

mine go mad for frankfurters, those cheapo ones in a tin are good, just chop them up into chunks, a good training aide. fishy treats can be brought in the pet shop but just dry out some fish skins, they love the tast of them.0
