All my Seville marmalade darkens with age - we're eating some very dark 2006 vintage ATM but the flavour has never been affected

Any help with red cabbage would be nice, I think I have somewhere a recipe a chutney but I can't find it.
Hoping to get the RC preserves book soon, already have a glorious jam book I managed to pick up from the charity shop for 50p that has some glorious recipes with some reasonablly exotic fruits, so will keep any eye out for any requests for idd recipes.
Must try and work out where to get reasonably priced distilled vinegar and fingers crossed somewhere has reduced cranberries as I need to make more mincemeat and fancy trying cranberry curd.
Have hideous preserve envy my shelf is very very poor this year, though the biggest success has been finally attempting chilli sauce ( a huge if hideously hot success).0 -
I made sloe gin this year and 2 of us drunk the entire bottle on christmas eve. and it was lovely. I will definitely make it nest year again.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Right on a roll - just strained and botted the last of the sloe gin, just stewing the sloes to make a boozy jelly/frozen dessert. Must go and pick up some cooking apples to make ginger marmalade and some pears to bottle some in mulled wine, determined to have a better shelf!!#Oh and must make whisky marmalade.
I do have one question - is anyone else like me and makes loads but really does not eat it, I tend to give it away.
(and ideas for left over lemon and limes post juicing would be good - made a fantastic lemon chutney with them, a poor lemon marmalade(which i now use to make a scrummy lemon cake only 4 jars to go) but would like more ideas)0 -
Marmalade time will soon be upon us and I see I have two jars left from last year's batch of 13. I shall be making some more but perhaps not quite as much.
The thing I'm looking forward to making most is lemon curd -of course this is an all round the year preserve but I shall be making some in the next couple of weeks. I haven't made it for years. My dd has been declared 'no longer allergic to eggs' and so lemon curd is back on our menu:jI think she will love it;) I might make some Seville orange curd when the y arrive in the shops.
Fruit curds do not last long and must be refrigerated once opened so make in small batches or give away as presents -remember that for next Christmas!
How to make fruit curds info here.0 -
Thanks for the Seville heads up Thriftlady, I made 27 jars last year and have 2 left. I have been hoarding the last 2 as I knew I would be without until January if I didn't keep some back0

Picked up 5 bags of cranberries yesterday - reduced to 10p :money:!! I got all 5 as the shop was closing and the assistant said they would be thrown out if not sold. Problem is, I have no freezer space at all - so will need to use them quickly (I did buy them with preserving in mind).
Does anyone have a tried and tested, fairly simple cranberry chutney recipe please. I have Googled for recipes but thought someone on here may have a favourite.
I also have tonnes of dried dates (big box from asian store) but no apples at all  (though I could get some tomorrow).
I'm relying on you guys. TIA.

Hmm Cranberry and white chocolate muffins, and think I have a reipe for a cranberry adn pink grapefruit marmalade somewhere.
You could always dry some to use with raisins and stuff in your baking as well.
PM if you want any of the recipes - not sure I have a chutney recipe just very jealous of your whoopsie - i love ranberries ( would eat them in a crumble - yum)0 -
