Was out a-foraging yesterday when I came across some hazel nuts. Altogether there are five trees absolutely covered in cobs. Now what the heck do I do with all those nuts? I'm thinking of making my own brand whole nut chocolate!0

:TThanks Patchy
I had a few earmarked on t'interweb, but hadn't quite decided which one yet.
Some had some stuff that I would not have associated with chutney... but this one seems to have all the stuff I like
And I will try it with the less ginger and sugar too.
The amounts you have suggested, dont seem excessive
Thanks again
Potty:D
POTTY! I forgot to write lb after the apples! Sorry! Don't use 1 1/2 apples, use 1 1/2 lb apples!0 -
Just to say I have now converted 7.5lb of sloes into 5 litres of gin-in-the-making and 7 small & 2 large jars of sloe & apple jelly (fab with game, duck or lamb)........the jelly was made whilst singing along to the first hour of the Abba thing on Radio 2!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I hadn't quite got round to making it yet
But Thanks Patchy
Hopefully, I will be mixing it up at the weekend :D0 -
Just a note to say that I tried preserving some eggs today. My Reader's Digest book says that they last for months if you slather them in petroleum jelly and keep them cool.
Am rather skeptical but since I've been given a dozen eggs (in return for saving egg boxes for the man at the allotments - he's very generous) I am a little over-egged just now.
It's worth a try0 -

Doesn't sound very appetising but if it works could be very useful.
My DH found a sloe bush on his way home today so I think he will be sent out with a bag to go and gather some.0 -
I have just made up 3 jars of pickled beetroot :j
I used 2 packs of the vacuum packed Asda smart price beetroots, sliced up, covered in pickling vinegar.
I only used about a quarter of the jar of vinegar.
So, I think I will try and get some more jars, and do a few more
I also have to try the beetroot chutney, posted earlier.
And have found a nice recipe for a beetroot relish too.0 -
got 20 foraged apples......what to do was thinking of chutney (again !) but nothing to go with it (blackberries etc)
anyone tried jam ?0 -
I make apple and ginger jam every year, there is a recipe on one of the threads somewhere. Not sure where though, its a Mrs Beeton recipe0
