Have done 3 jars of aspargus in oil and 5 jars of beetroot relish.
When I made the relish last year I wasn't too sure if I would like it. Anyway its gorgeous and have eaten the jars I had left. This year have made this version without horseradish and will make another 5 jars with horseradish in a month or 2. Asparagus in oil was very easy and looks very pretty in the oil and jars
Next will be some strawberry jam when I find some cheap strawbs for a kgfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Hi all, I have a question about making mixed fruit jam using a combination of frozen and fresh fruit.
I have:
1 kilo of fresh black cherries
400g fresh strawberries
400g frozen blackcurrants
550g frozen raspberries
I would like to use them all up in a single batch of jam as the frozen fruits are from last years crop so I need to make space for this year. My question is if I use all of the fruits I have, how much sugar and lemon juice should I use?
I also have jam sugar as well as regular granulated as I know that all these except the blackcurrants are fairly low in pectin.
Does anyone have any experience of making jams with combinations of fruit like this? I'd like to hear your experiences and any advice you might have0 -
Thought I'd update just in case its useful to anyone else.
I stoned the cherries and once I'd done that they weighed only 650g so added to the other stuff, that gave me near enough 2 kilos of fruit. So I softened them in their own juice and smashed them up with a potato masher and added an equal weight of jam sugar.
Presto, perfect 4 fruit jam :j
I wouldn't usually cheat and buy expensive jam sugar but there were too many low pectin fruits and when adding in that some were frozen I didn't want to take any chances with overboiling trying to get a set and losing the lovely fresh flavours of the berries0 -
That sounds brilliant & definitely worth buying the jam sugar, needs must sometimes!0

Hi, I made 10lbs of strawberry jam this morning using CERTO liquid pectin. I followed the recipe on the label but the jam has not set yet. Should I just boil it more or buy more certo ? Very grateful for any suggestions you can offer.Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order

How long did you boil it for? It's notoriously difficult to set!0 -

Yesterday I bought 2.5kg of strawberries for £2.55 which made 4 jars of strawberry jam for about 60p each cost - from just over 1kg of strawberries and have just put another load on to make about another 4 jars
Already had the sugar in and lemon juice so costed those at around £2 and 20p eachfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
mmmmmjust made 4 jars of blackcurrant jam - went to a friends this morning & picked the blackcurrants from her garden & another friend popped over with the sugar so zero cost aside from actually cooking it
of course both friends will be getting a pot of jam out of it  ooh also have some left over in the fridge which will be added to yogurt for pudding
