LCD TV's at Asda

My local Asda had a stack of 15" lcd tellys this evening for, I think, £165 or thereabouts. None on display, out of the box, and of course 15" is pretty tichy after gazing at a 42" plasma, but it seemed a fair price by current standards, and may well be adequate for some, especially as a bedroom telly perhaps.

Hi dc - any idea what brand and were they widescreen? Thinking if it's worth getting the Mrs to pop in to the one near her.The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

I'd advise paying the extra for the dead pixel check (can't find the URL now, but they used to guarantee no dead pixels for £15 or so), as I bought a Digimate 1918 19" TFT from them and it has a group of always-on green sub-pixels right near the middle of the screen which is fairly annoying  . More annoying still is that the ISO standard that TFTs have to adhere to allows for at maximum of five of these for a screen this size, and I have a feeling that if I send it back, they might just charge me for no fault found and send it straight back..
I was a skinflint and didn't pay the extra, though I may just be unlucky. I wouldn't be surprised if they check each and every one, and put the ones with no dead pixels to one side and flog the others, giving the fully-working ones to people prepared to shell out the extra. Just something to bear in mind, as it does make their prices slightly less competitive..0 -

As you didnt pay for the check you probably received one that was paid to be checked by another customer.0 -
A tip I use (sometimes) when buying TFT monitors is to shop around the prices of catalogue companies such as Argos etc, who offer 'no quibble' guarantees or 'on approval' schemes. That way, if you get one with a dead pixel (or pixels), just send it back no questions asked.
Catalogues do tend to be a little more expensive though most of the time, but occasionally you find the odd good price.0 -
