Update on Tesco's & Visa Electron

Dear me, what a mess Tesco have got themselves into!
This all seems so unnecessary (and if a certain bank hadn't recycled BIN numbers it probably wouldn't have been a problem).
As others have pointed out, the work I put in earlier in the year related to Asda and specifically their self service petrol pumps which needed reprogramming. I would have taken Tesco to task at the same time but they allowed these cards to be used in their self service pumps quite early on.
Myiasid you're saying the Co-Op card is now being accepted? Can others try it and see what the status is?
Then if it's still not working there's a couple of options I think would be most effective.
One would be someone who has already contacted Tesco and been knocked back taking this up with their executive office to see what's going on. Two would be me taking this up with their executive office, however I would prefer someone doing this who has direct experience of being knocked back as I don't have one of these cards and OH who has one hasn't tried to use the card recently in there.
So specifically to go forward:
1) Are you still having the problem, following Myiasid reporting it works okay?
2) If you are having a problem, where is the card working and where is it not working? (i.e. does it work in a grocery store with a cashier, does it work in a petrol station with cashier, does it work in store self service, does it work at petrol pump self service, does it work online?)
3) What are the first six digits of your card, and do you have the older green Electron style card or the newer blue Visa Debit style card?
4) Which location have you tried to use the card at?
Then once you've posted that information it just needs someone to type up a template email and an email address for it to go to. Who could possibly do that? (Yours truly will oblige
)
This is the way we won Asda and I got the distinct impression when I was talking to their head office staff they were surprised at the speed and accuracy of information from so many different people. It was this approach that caused them to sit up and change things after a couple of years denying there was a problem.
Before we do any of this though it's important to find exactly where the card does and doesn't work.
Is everyone else happy to go forward in this way?0 -
Yes ! i have an order raised for delivery on Thursday.
I contacted tesco online, and Co-op bank and also my local Tesco store who would deliver, and none of them knew anything about it working, but the lady at tesco sounded ecstatic and relieved it was !
But the Co-op bank did confirm that a pre-authorisation of £2 was taken at the time I did the first checkout of the tesco order. Which means that Tesco are taking £2 pre-authorisation fee for the initial checkout only, compared to Asda to take £1 for the initial checkout and subsequent amendments too. My Asda delivery on saturday was still showing an amount pre-authorised the same as my final delivery value, which means hopefully that they haven't taken more than one-final delivery amount, only £2 for the initial order checkout and one amendment.
Whether i get the tesco delivery, is another matter.
@cityslicker, you seem to remind me of myself before I had my breakdown and then having to finish work due to spinal disease, and 25 years in IT and latterly web development for 'big companies' ! but like me your not likely to give up fighting for what's right.
When I spoke to co-op this morning, and I suggested that Tesco had said it was their fault, the lady on the other end of the phone said - ' that is something I cannot comment on '
But It needs someone to use the card 'live' and pay for something to make sure it's working again on final payment.
For me I have a 'visa debit' marked card, which replaced the 'electon' marked card 12 months ago. The card cumbers were different but the initial header prefix was 45087500 on both.0 -
After seeing the post above I shot off and completed checkout on the order I tried to place yesterday - thankfully Tesco save the basket contents!
All gone through fine for online grocery ordering.:j Be lovely to hear if everyone is successful now.

I seem to have this talent for communicating my ideas effectively and writing letters/reports that I'm usually able to identify the most powerful person in an organisation to change something. I know not everyone else has this talent and bankrupts are given a rough ride (speaking from direct experience of my OH she would have crumbled long ago on certain issues whereas I used my skills to force them to correct an issue, plus give her some money to say sorry, plus send her a luxury M&S hamper with Santander).
For as long as I'm able to I'd like to share these skills with this group as this is a good cause that frequently doesn't get enough attention.0 -
Hello.
I had problems Saturday with my Coop Cashminder Visa Debit not being accepted (it is the only card I have) and after reading the threads today I called Tesco customer service who have said that there is still a problem. Can someone update me please as with Tesco it seems the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.0 -

It appears for at least two people on this thread the problem has been solved. Give it a try, it is more likely people will be able to use it in practice and still be told there's a problem if Tesco have put a fix in place but they're seeing if it fully works.0 -
Tesco's staff sometimes view the non-acceptance of a card as being the customer's problem...and fault.....
However, to be fair I have noticed this attitude in other organisations.....they don't want to presume the fault lies with their own organisation.....
Whatever happened to 'the customer's always 'right?'No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Now I'm unable to find the post where someone had contacted Tesco over the weekend and been told it was a fault with the Co-op.
Anyway, received a call from Tesco customer services today in response to my email on Sunday when I tried to checkout and couldn't. The stance now seems to be that it was a problem with Co-op's servers over the past couple of weeks which has now been fixed. Also mentioned was the fact that Lloyds' had a problem on Sunday as well, which meant none of their cards could be used in Tesco online checkout that day.
Anyone experience of that through friends or family? When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
