The latest up date I've taken directly from the Tesco site

We accept the following method of payments:
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Solo, Delta, Clubcard Plus.
We don't accept Electron cards, cash, cheques or paper vouchers/coupons.
If you do have an Electron card please check with your issuing bank as they can upgrade your card to allow you to shop online with us.

Well I suppose that is a small step forward but I have read several times that they have had ONLY A FEW customers contact them to complain. That....considering the number of peeved customers, is a LIE.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread on Visa Electron but I for one have given up the fight and found other ways.

I spoke to my bank and certainly they were very surprised that Tesco refuses the card online with the comment that 'they must be losing a lot of business.'

The whole thing is totally illogical.

Anyway the Coop is upgrading their card and phasing out Electron and I have also applied for and received and checked with Tesco the Yorkshire Bank prepaid Maestro. Two advantages...one of course, Tesco, the other is that you limit the amount of money on the pre paid, which you use only online and then any hacker only has a limited amount of money to steal and not your main bank account.

    Simples!

The co-op 'new visa debit card' is infact still visa electron and currently wont work on the Tesco site.
    £2 Savers club £0/£150
    1p a day £/

Yes! I found that out the hard way after beng assured that it would by Coop Customer Service!

When I spoke to Tesco tech and mentioned the, 'yes you can use it online when we have upgraded our systems,' I asked, were they lying? He replied.....yes!

The whole thing is totally illogical and I hope they lose a few millions as a result. Meanwhile it's back to transferring funds over to another account which Tesco WILL accept.

If you really like Tesco you could always get a prepaid credit card. I used to have https://www.mycashplus.com

I haven't looked into it yet but there is suppose to be a clubcard+ account that you can use online at Tesco's and it's not a creditcard!! (Hopefully someone can help us understand it!)but the way I understand it is you pay so much a month into Tesco's Clubcard + and you can use it too buy your groceries online. Anyone got one? Can they explain how it works?
  • I don't have one but I believe it's called clubcard plus and you set up a standing order to put a fixed amount per month on the card (can be anything from £1) you can also top it up and then use it in store or online.
