    Hi Mother Hen,
That's word for word the same as they sent me,except my letter from headoffice said that they would in the near future be changing the system to allow the use of visa electron! The bit about a signature is C**P why is it that other internet sites have accepted Visa electron for years in that case.

Come on everyone lets drive them mad with e-mails etc eventually they will sort the system out !

Hi there, just an update to let you know that i tried my electron card at the pay at pumps the other night and it wasn't accepted.

Had to go out of my way again to fuel up !

I also emailed tescos and i got pretty much the same type of cr*ppy email response as all the others, but you never know if enough people complain it might just do something.

As someone has already quite rightly pointed out, Electron cards are available to 16 yr olds and therefore any business which involves selling or providing a service to over 18s only (alcohol, gambling) could have a problem with Electron, depending on their computer system.

    Just a thought ......;)

Not an excuse, almost all the companies that don't accept Electron on-line accept Solo (Tesco even accept Solo for alcohol purchases on-line)
Grocery and Wine, Visa, Visa Delta, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro UK, Solo, Clubcard Plus and Clubcard Vouchers
and some Banks issue Solo cards to 11 year old children ..........
Solo is issued as a multifunction cash card by NatWest and The Royal Bank of Scotland to customers over the age of 11 and by HSBC Bank (formerly Midland Bank) to customers over the age of 13.

  • How frustrating! I never knew there were all these problems. I haven't actually had any problems online but then I usually shop around for groceries and petrol all over the place, and its just gifts/clothes etc I need online.

Thanks Jayne for taking this on. Tesco's are well behind the times.

Goes to show that these companies are not as clever as they think they are. I wonder how many people will this year go BR and the only bank account they can get uses Electron. If i was the boss of these businesses i would be standing over the finance director until this was done as its a bit discriminating towards us people who can only get an electron card.

Tesco's always used to take Visa Electron at their "pay at the pump" pumps. It did a little check prior to pump authorisation to see you had a t least a pound in your account then, as long as you did, off you went up to a maximum of £60. You had to make sure you had funds going in the following day to cover your purchase otherwise you would get a charge from your bank. A wee bit risky if you aren't great with money or slightly forgetful...

About six months ago, I noticed it stopped accepting my card. I thought it was something personal but it looks like it's company policy.

Tescos put new pumps in at my local store. Since then they won't accept Solo or Electron.

I love my visa electron card, I have never had any problems using it anywhere in this country or abroad the only place I cant use it is Tesco online! I've been using my card to buy things online for years, so why dont tesco stop making excuses and sort it out!
