My issues with tesco were more than just the card payment one. They persistently delivered my order only partially packed, and poorly chosen products that were sub standard. Despite my complaints nothing changed, anyway I digress

Ah! I see, sorry. You don't have much luck with SM it seems.

  • A few weeks ago i had a problem with my card. Paid for shopping in the shop, no problem. Went to get petrol using the pay at pump and it didn't accept my card, said it wasn't valid. I've used the card loads at the same pump before, so not sure what happened! A few days later i tried using the card somwhere else and it was declined, despite having money in the account. Called Co-op and they said they'd been updating their computers.

Not tried it again at tesco, but hopeful it'll work again!

So for me I need to place the order during the week whilst there are still available slots to be delivered (for example) at the weekend when the funds will be in my account. This is how I have always done it but now the goalposts have moved it seems.
So I wonder what is the solution for people like me!

Two ways round this, order Friday when you have the money but have delivery on a cheaper weekday slot when you'll be in.

    Or

Make a small order earlier in the week, that you have money for in your account. Book a delivery slot for the weekend and checkout. Then on Friday just go in and amend the existing order, adding in everything else you need to buy.

There's always a way round it.

Over time, try leaving just a tenner or so more in your account each week or month, let that build up until you have enough to do a full order earlier in the week, a buffer amount if you like. Then you'll always be ahead in your current account and have a bit spare, no risk of running down near the zero balance. You can help reach this point by maybe ordering a day later each week for a while, or cutting your grocery budget a bit for a while, just sneak a little away from different areas until you have the buffer amount available.

So it's still about managing your money, just in a slightly different way to reach your goals.

A nice idea just unfortunate that as I'm on such a low wage and everything is paid weekly when I'm paid (bills, rent, fares etc) we are living hand to mouth as it is. On such a tight budget come Friday there's no food left hence why I need that delivery then.
Never mind I'll just get on the bus with the shopping bags on way home from work on Fridays, as long as mr tesco and mr asda get richer thats all that matters lol

sadly for you and us, that is the bottom line.

Although I have used Tesco's home delivery service years ago [actually coming out on top, as it happens, regarding missed-off items, replacement items, etc...] personally I am reluctant to pay for a hit 'n miss service. [does it still cost a fiver?]

Neither do I pay at the pump for fuel.....I find it saves merely precious seconds...life's too short to worry about those!

Regarding issues of 'leaving kids in the car?'.... what has actually changed in the past ten, twenty or thirty years [since I've had young kids in my car?]?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

See, I've been using Tesco delivery for more than 5 years now and rarely have any problems at all, most deliveries lately I haven't even had any substitutes!

  • It's been 3 years since the original post was made, & Tesco still do not accept Visa Electron online :(

I currently shop online with Asda, but would love to switch to Tesco.

Sophie, do you still have a Co-Op Visa Electron? If so, just ring them up and ask for a replacement card which will be a Visa Debit, even if your expiry date is a while away they should be able to replace the card.

I have had a Visa Debit with Co-Op from when I opened the account and shopped with Tesco online throughout.
